Well not good news.

All,
I know flames are coming, but after the many problems with my Titan and poor service, I have traded in for a Toyota Tundra 4x4 Limited Double Cab. I have really enjoyed the people on this forum and if you want to kick me off, I understand. The people made this group awesome. The Titan is exactly the perfect 1/2 Ton truck if I didn't have the above problems. I would say if I waited another year, maybe this would be a different story.

Problem
1. brakes (fixed - not sure how long)
2. A/C drip in cab.
3. loose mud flap - repaired myself
4. front bumper incorrectly installed - stealer adjusted but left some parts off and I was looking the didn't fall off on the way home - just laying on top of the radiator. Mechanic also put a dent and large scratch in my front skid
plate and refused to repair.
5. Rear bumper off. mechanic tried to adjust and made worse.
6. Hissing A/c
7. Radio fade ( radio supposedly on order)
8. Ticking noise, confirmed with sleightofhand - appeared to be purge value,
dealer refused to replace.
9. clicking noise going from A/C on acceleration.
10. stripped bolt under seat - dealer repaired.
11. low front and rear differential. I drained and filled rear, had dealer check front and he told me it was fine, I checked and was low, filled myself.
12. Drivers seat coming apart like someone else had posted here.

The problems above would not have been as bad, but I took to 2 different stealers and they in most cases did poor work or refused to repair. So if I could have found a good nissan repair shop - may have stayed with it.

Joe

Too bad you had so many problems. My Titan has been trouble free other than the sonar not working ever. Did you take a beating on the trade? Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear you had so many problems! I know its a "moo" point (little Joey "Friends" humor there) but did the lemon laws in your state not cover your brakes? I know I know, that takes a lot patience and you are the one stuck driving/paying for it during the long months it takes to follow up on the suit, but I am just interested. Anyway, the alternative is a great pick (the Tundra)!

Joe,

Which dealership in the Raleigh area did you go to? I want to avoid this mechanic if I can. I heard horror stories about Southern States Nissan, so that is why I bought my Titan at Michael Jordan Nissan in Durham. Sorry that you had so many problems. I bought my Titan in May and have 2400 trouble free miles so far. I apologize for not coming to the Raleigh area meet. Turns out that I went to the Outer Banks that weekend to help my parents move. That's the biggest drawback about owning a pickup. I hope you have better luck with your Tundra.

Question

I have a 2001 Toyota Tundra Ext cab 2wd. I plan on getting a crew cab in the fall of 2005. I like both the Titan and the Tundra. I haven't test drove a Nissan Titan yet. Since you have experienced both vehicles, if you don't mind how does the Tundra compare to the Titan. Ride, handling, power, and braking distance? I think both are good vehicles but that Titan V8 sounds fun to drive.

The brakes were fixed, so I coudn't claim lemon law. My issue was the not just problems but dealing with incompetent service departments. Either they were so new to the truck or just didn't want to hear it. There is still no excuse for damaging the skid plate, that tells me the mechanic hit something + no excuse for leaving parts off and loose under the hood. Tundra, I am hoping will have less problems and hopefully the dealership where I purchased has a good repair reputation. Still, the Titan has much more power. Will miss that, but I don't tow heavy.

I was getting mine repaired at Central Carolina Nissan in Sanford, I also tried Southern States but had no luck. I had heard Michael Jordan is better. I purchased my truck in December, so I have heard that the newer trucks seem to have less problems. No problem on the Raleigh meet, if there is another one, I can come if you don't mind a Toyota guy hanging out with you.

The Titan will run off and leave the Tundra in the dust. Titan engine is just plain fast. Its like driving a sports Truck and it sounds bad. The Tundra is smooth, less power and quite. Handling in both are excellent, The Tundra is longer and seems to have a larger turning radius. I will say that the Titan transmission seems a little smoother than the Tundra and the 5 speed in the Titan is a big plus. The Bed is longer in the Tundra compared to the Titan (DC vs CC). The seats in the Titan seem firmer but the Tundra cloth seems nicer to me. Towing capabilities of the Titan is much better than the Tundra (I don't tow that much so not a problem). Titan seems to come with more for the money. I think you should test drive the Titan, I think you will be impressed. I think it all depends on your needs.

What really pisses me off is that if the dealers had been competent and just fixed your problems than you more than likely would have never thought of getting rid of your truck. Ok, enough of my ranting. I think you will like your Tundra. I demoed a 2003 trade-in we had for a month or so and liked it a lot. It was a toss up between the Tundra and Titan when I bought the Titan. But, I have had no trouble other than a little rattle which I had to fix, so I am happy with my decision.

Sorry about that BigJoe.
I’m sure you will have very few problems with your Tundra, more importantly I hope the treat you right if minor issues arise. I have little patience with how I am treated & if I went through the same I might have made the same call. Good Luck! & Nice truck.

BigJoe:

You are always welcome here, don't you worry about that.

Sounds like your issues were with Nissan Service Departments more than with your Titan. By your description, you still love that truck, just the nits and gnats coupled with poor service wore you out.

Hope you have better luck with your Tundra and Toyota service.

Happy Trails,

37L1

Thanks all,
Yes, I still love the Titan. If I would have waited, probably would have had less problems, hence less time at service departments. I think this is same issue with stevemis, if they would just replace his seat - geezs. Well anyway, you are fine group of people and I will be around to let you know how the Tundra goes and keep up with the Titan.

Well the solution is........

I think the real solution is for you to pick up your family and belongings and move to a different part of the country where the stealerships are better.

JK. Good luck with the Tundra. That would be my second choice.

BigJoe, it would benefit all of us Titan owners if you would take the time to write Nissan listing your complaints, especially the poor service dep't., and inform them of your trade to the Toyota Tundra. I can't help but believe a letter concerning a loss of customer base will get their attention, AND that of the dealer with the poor service dep't.
