Factory Bedliner without Bed Package

Hey - I picked up my new Titan at the dealership yesterday. I had requested the factory bedliner since I had heard about this truck being the first with factory installed spray-on liner, even if it has had its problems. But I did not want the track system bed package as I have no use for it. So I ordered just the bedliner thinking I was getting the spray-on from the factory.

I pick up the truck and it has the drop-in plastic type of liner. I question this and the dealership says that Nissan does not offer the spray-on without the bed package. After some ranting, I accept that there was a miscommunication and that I could not have ordered what I wanted from the factory. Can anyone confirm that this is correct?

I guess I don't understand why the factory would install the plastic drop-in liner when they have the capability of spraying it in. And then they don't really clarify that two different types of bedliner come out of the factory - it just says "Bedliner" on the invoice. For the record, the dealership took my ranting pretty well and did give a decent offer to install the spray-on liner at the dealership. But I did not like that I could only get a recorded message about being closed on July 5th at the 800-NISSAN1 number when I called at 6pm EDT on July 7 to confirm that what the dealership was telling me.

The factory bedliner is an option without the utility track system. Its about $320 invoice. I suspect the dealor put in the plastic liner, not the factory.

Its true, you only get the factory spray-on liner when you order the utilitrack bed option. The utilitrack bed is additionally reinforced for the potential stresses use of the utilitrack channel system may present. I guess Nissan decided to spray only the utilitrack beds as a marketing ploy to entice buyers into selecting the utilitrack bed option and to limit the production line configurations. Judging from the posts there are sometime problems with the factory spray-on liner anyway, so you may be better off with something aftermarket like Line-X of Rhino Liner. Depending on what you paid the dealer and how much noise you make, you might "convince" your dealer to send your truck to an aftermarket spray shop - in compensation to you. I've read about folks getting "free" Line-X from the dealer on occasion.
I have an XE CC and I'm getting mine Line-X spray (at my own expense) for about $350.

Gollem - It seems that many owners have had problems with the factory spray-on bedliner with blistering and fading. Do a search for "bedliner" and you will probably see lots of threads on the subject.

My0My - the dealership is offering to do the spray-in for $250 (includes lifetime warranty), plus I keep the drop-in to try to sell. I'm no expert on the subject. Is the Line-X worth an extra $100 or is what the dealer going to put in just as good? Thanks for the info.

In a nutshell, some folks have experience blistering. This may have been an early production issue and resolved now. Use the search feature to find the posts related to that subject for better history. My particular option preferences did not allow me to order the utilibed, so I haven't followed it very closely.

There are 2 types of bedliners offered by Nissan, one is an option on the XE and SE. The other is the factory spray on that is only available with the utili-trac bed.
By utili-trac bed I mean the actual bed is different for the utili-trac option (as I recall it is becuase loads attached to the tracks may put higher stress on certain areas). Maybe the spray guns are located on a part of the line that only deals with the Utili-Trac bed, or maybe it's more of Nissan's crazy option bundling.

Sadly you got what you ordered even if it wasn't what you wanted.

There was a problem with the spray in earlier in production due to the spray guns being set too thin/thick hopefully that is a thing of the past.

After purchasing my Titan, I made an appointment and took it straight over to Line X and had them spray the bed. They did an awesome job and they guarantee the work. They have also been doing this alot longer than Nissan. I've seen the work they've done on many vehicles from truck beds to exterior finishes and also interior. So I was pretty confident with my decision. Plus your not financing it and paying more. Looks good and its bullet proof. If for any reason you damage the material they can repair it without any problems. After not having my Titan for almost three weeks for some minor repairs, I'm glad I opted for Line X because they can repair any damage quickly. When I dropped off my Titan they had just finished another Titan.

I agree Line-X has a good reputation and I've seen the product after many years of use and it still looks great. If you can get the bed sprayed for $250, I'd go for it.

Sorry I didn't read so closely. I would stick with Line-X over the dealer, unless they are an authorized Line-X shop. That way you still have the nationwide lifetime warranty. If they are offering the Line-X for $250 that's a steal.

Thanks. I've grown to become very fond of it. It is an intresting color, though often hard to describe.

"Deep Water"

I usually say greenish blue, but I don't really think that gives it justice. "Deep water" makes most people's eyes glaze over in confusion.

How do you describe the color to people who haven't seen the truck yet?

I was sold on black for obvious reasons (it looks killer) ,but to much work, the deep water was my next choice and I love it. Glad I chose it.

I'm a LINE-X dealer. I'll be happy to help you with any questions about LINE-X or any other bedliner for that matter.
