Any time after the break in period. I changed mine to Mobil 1 at 2400 miles. I have 3500 on it now and have had no problems. I see synthetics as a no brainer with all the benifets.

I usually don't add it until around 5000 miles or so..it's said that it takes a while for your engine to break in properly..just my 2 cents..I'm no expert

From my limited time on this board, there seem to be several threads about the pors and cons of synthetics - more information than I would have imagined. Personally, I'm going to let mine break in a while before I switch it over. In past experience, I think synthetic quiets the engine and give a little better performance. Had more noise with Mobil 1 than Royal Purple - but both were good. Might try Amsoil this time. I'll probably get a couple of oil changes at the dealer before I start messing with synthetics. I'm thinking of sending for an oil analysis also. We'll see.

When your warranty has expired. The owner's manual states on page 9-4, "Nissan recommends mineral based oils". If you have engine problems with an oil that they do not recommend, you can bet your last dollar that Nissan will use this to try to wiggle out of an expensive warranty repair.

The dealer I bought from sells, and will use Amsoil for your oil change. If they approve and perform the oil change with the synthetic and later, will not back an expensive repair under warranty, there will be lawyers involved... I haven't checked into it yet, I want my engine to break in 100% (currently 5000 miles), however, if they make me sign a waiver then I will stick to the dino oils.

my first oil change at 1600 i used valvoline 10-30(same stuff that the stealer uses). my next (3200) i used castrol gtx 10-30, just to try a different dino oil. probably wont go full synthetic till 10k.
everybody has their own rules when it comes to oil and oil changes. thats what makes message boards so cool, just to see what other people are doing and how it works for them.

I had my first oil change with the Valvoline SynPower at the dealership, and since this is a Nissan recommended product, the warranty will always be applicable.

Where did you see that it was Valvoline SynPower is a Nissan recommended product? The owners manual doesn't state that.
