I had the same problem, I just rounded off the posts slightly so the extender goes in at a 60 degree angle instead of straight up. The clearance at the back of the rear tire is tight also, especially with a new tire, this is solved by making sure the tiedowns are pulled really snug, to pull the bike as far forward as possible. The extender can then go to the down position (just rubs on tire slightly). This is with the bike straight back, a little more room can be gained by shifting it sideways a bit.
