gas octane vs. AKI for the titan (don't flame me)

Hi stupid question...
what is the difference between Octane and AKI (anti-knock index)....

the manual says you should run (91 AKI or higher in the titan, (I believe)....

guess the question I have is Octane 87 87 on AKI, and 93 (premium, 93 AKI)

I know this is a stupid question and it's probably been answered before so first of all ease off... just want some help, don't need people telling me to do a search here or there... Just want the answer, my computer is slow, this sight is slow to begin with so searching on this site is not fun at my house, thats all....

help me out!

Use what is recommended by the Manufaturer and you should have no probs.Higher octane fuels burn quicker and cooler if I am correct in my thinking. But they do not provide enough of a difference between one another to make a difference. You would be basically throwing money out the window by going to higher octane and getting nothing in return.
If I am wrong then someone please correct my error. If I am right then good,finally got one right.

To the problems of this site:I have none and site works very well. I have Cable which makes a big difference. I would guess you are on Dial up with low memory capacity and probably a lot of programs trying to run simultaneously so therefore,they slow your computer down.
Good Luck.

Sorry Titan UP, you were close, but higher octane burns SLOWER. It is only necessary in high compression/advanced timing applications where the combustion chamber gets so hot, the A/F mixture burns uncontrollably (basically, it self ignites). This is what is known as pinging/detonation.

The manual says you should run the following:
Octaine = 87
AKI = 87
RON = 91

Think of it as certain temperature measured in both Celsius and Fahrenheit.
In the US we throw around the AKI number as Octane while in other parts of the world (Japan comes to mind) they use the RON number.

AKI= Anti Knock Index
RON=Research Octane Number.

So.... 87 Octaine = 87 AKI = 91 RON

There is no "standalone" octane rating, that is one given without the method used to determine it. There are three commonly used descriptors for octane rating: AKI (anti knock index), RON (research octane number), and MON (motor octane number).

The manual specifies a minimum octane rating requirement of 87 AKI or 91 RON (and further that for ops above 4000ft 85 AKI is also permissible). Notice no "standalone" octane rating is specified, as it does not exist.

Typical pump gas is rated AKI, which is simply the average of RON & MON or AKI = (RON+MON)/2. So as long as the pump is marked 87 AKI (the BIG number on the octane label) you are good to go.

Okay now for the morning cup of coffee, since I haven't had it yet don't flame me if I got some of the math wrong !

haha, thanks guys....
I guess i was wrong.... the # i was concerned about was the Ron at 91... (just re-read the manual...)

Interstingly... in an early consumer reports web site published back in the beginning of the year, (feb-march-ish) it said one of the drawbacks about the Titan was the fact that it takes premium fuel only...

I'll keep putting regular in!
