(not the titan) car won't start, need help

The car is a 97 eclipse. I went to go start my car this morning and it was dead. So i jump start it and everything was fine. Drove it for about 30 minutes and tried to restart it again and nothing. The battery is reading 12.84 on the volt meter. Shouldn't that be enough juice to start it or could it still be bad?

You need power capacity not just proper voltage. BTW same thing happened to my Toyota pickup (twice).

Check the voltage with the engine running, if its above 13V the alternator is working. Assuming that checks okay and no obvious load is draining the battery, pull the battery and have it tested.

First time for me it was a bad battery, six months later the alt went bad. Thus began an ongoing repair saga on the truck...and the reason for the new Titan in my garage

Battery is toast. If its servicable fill it up with distilled water and put it on a charger. If that doesn't work or its unservicable buy a new battery. If it won't crank, but jump starts and runs fine, headlight work etc. than the alternator is working and the battery just won't hold a charge.

Start the vehicle (either by battery or by jumper cables). Then disconnect the negative battery terminal. If the vehicle continues to operate without the battery, your alternator is probably not the problem.

Same symptom with our 97 Maxima. Get it tested under load. Should stay above at least 9.6V with a load of about 125-150 amps. I would look at starter draw. Our 97 Maxima had the same issue intermittently and the starter bushing were starting to seize. Weren't sure what was wrong because once it was running, everything tested fine, but every now and then the starter would pull really high amps. Finally locked up and put a new Bosch in it, sold it for an -04 Quest and got myself a Titan. Pop for the 30 bucks to get it tested and be done.

Put in the new battery and everything is fine so far. Hope it stays that way.
