I am getting ready to buy a Tru-Trac and was wondering if the Mag-HyTec diff cover was worth it? I currently have the aluminum finned diff cover so would the Mag be needed? Here is a link: https://www.4x4parts.com/nissan/titan-maghytec-rear-differential-cover-p-5959.html I plan to do some heavy off roading so what would be the gain between the aluminum diff cover and the Mag-Hytec? Would there be any other options since I plan to have a truss built for the rear axle?
The Mag would be more beneficial with your OEM diff, but it sure won't hurt anything with a Tru Trac. It's just not necessary with the Tru Trac. That diff is tougher than the OEM one.
Kind of what I thought... I already have the aluminum finned diff cover so spending another $235 on a diff cover would be pointless... that is money that can go towards front glass...
Increased Oil Capacity. Consider the Stillen Cover, as it is sold for less, but still gives the increased capacity, if you desire that. Sometimes goes on Sale too. I bought mine back in 2007, for just $157.25 as part of a package deal from Kyle. Black Powder Coated Version is Part Number 458560P
I purchased the PML diff cover. I like it a lot, no problems at all. I even painted it to color match my truck. Also, if you plan on doing heavy offroading, why a truetrac then?? Why not an arb air locker?? Cuz the truetrac isn't gonna be good heavy offroading at all.
Certainly the Mag-Hytec diff cover is not "needed" since you already have the improved OEM finned aluminum one. If you do a lot of hauling where you are pulling a heavy load, it may make sense to get a diff cover that allows for more volume of diff lube than the OEM cover and the Mag-Hytec may serve well in this respect since it will hold up to four quarts of lube.
I bought a Mag-Hytec diff cover since the diff cover on my 2004 4x2 Titan was the original OEM steel diff cover and when I changed my rear over to a True-Trac, the diff lube was "cooked" to the point it looked like blackstrap molasses. I could have purchased the improved finned aluminum OEM diff cover but I bought the Mag-Hytec diff cover as much for the improved utility and visual appeal over the rather dull looking OEM Nissan diff cover. If funds had been tight, I may have made a different decision at the time.
I've got one on my T. Replaced non finned oem with it. I get lots of compliments and comments even from non truck people. I would recommend one and do it again if I had the chance.
