Navagation System NFG

My Navigation System died for good on me tonight. Kept getting "Disc Error" several times a week but it won't go away now. The DVD player has finally packed it in. I am not amused, its' only 3 months old.

I think it is the same Nav system that has been used in other Nissan products for a coupld of years so it should be reliable. I hope yours is an isolated incident. I have had no issues with mine but I have only had my Truck for about a month. Let us know what they do to fix it.

RRUMANER posted regarding the same problem. His dealer ordered him a new player.

Yep, mine is DOA as well. Same thing - DISK ERROR. Hopefully the new one will work for more than 5 months.

Took the truck to my local NISSAN dealer Saturday morning. All day Friday I had the "DISC ERROR" and the blank NISSAN screen. Well the damn thing started working Saturday morning. I explained to the service manager what was happening and because it was working OK at the time I brought it in he said they couldn't do anything about it.

This same service manager used to work at the local DODGE dealer so he knew me well from my very frequent DURANGO visits. He is a super guy and I like him but I have to bring the truck back while I have the "DISC ERROR" displayed. This is frustrating but I suppose he is right that they can't order new parts to shotgun a problem until they are sure exactly what is wrong. Could be the DVD player under the front passenger seat, could be the ECM, ect... I even asked about me taking a picture of the error screen but that isn't good enough.

Nice sim building by the way. It looks like the same one we have for the C130, except I bet you guys don't have threat capabilities. Haha.

Sorry to hear about the DVD woes.

My NAV came up with disc error last night and would not work the hour drive home. Started the truck this morning and now its working. I guess I won't bother taking in to the dealer untill its dead again. Let us no how your problem plays out.

Have you guys tried taking the disc out and reinserting it? It worked for me, and I haven't had a problem since.
Good Luck

Ever since the day I first posted this issue the navigation system has worked flawlessly. Initially there was a big greasy fingerprint on the NAV DVD which I removed with some plastic polish. But it has acted up since that cleaning. It seems to have a problem with excessive humidity. Here in Mississippi it gets very hot & humid and all 3 times I had the "DISK ERROR" it was excessively humid outside.

I will inform of any further developments. On the bright side my wife can get anywhere now with this advanced navigation system. She is not much of a natural navigator but all she needs is a street address to key in and the truck does the rest. Pure magic.

I had a new DVD/Nav system installed a week after I posted that mine went DOA. So far so good and it is even faster than the old one.

Just get your dealer to order a new one. They are under warranty for at least the first 3 years so why complain. Just get a new one.

Took mine in for the third time for Nav giving disc error. This time it was doing it when it went in. Come to find out there is a TSB on this dated 8-24-04. My dealer is ordering a new Nav for the truck along with a new radio.
