Question Can you get Off-Road without Big Tow?

Over the past few weeks I've been in negotiation with a local dealer over a Titan 4x4 SE CC. After looking over the available packages, I decided upon Off-Road, Popular with Pwr Captain Chairs, and the Utility Bed Pkg. I also want the receiver hitch with trailer wiring harness that comes with the Big Tow pkg., but I don't necessarily need all the other stuff that comes with Big Tow (I occassionally tow a small boat, but I don't ever see myself towing 9000+ lbs).

My dealer is telling me that is rare to find a Titan equipped with Off-Road, but not have the Big Tow pkg. as well. Do ya'll think she is giving me load of bull or have any of you seen a truck equipped with Off-Road, but no Big Tow?

I don't want to have to order a Titan when there is a ton of them on the lots around here, but I also don't want to have to pay for a package when there is really only one thing in the package I need. Comments?

There are probably thousands of Titans out there with just the OF and not the BT. They are just found together a lot since the two packages share parts that are more than cosmetic, such as the different gear ratio. There just may not be any in your area. Go to Nissanmotors.com, build the truck you want and do a search for it in your state. If you don't find it, do a search in a neighboring state. If you don't find it there and can wait 90+ days, then order it. That's what I had to do.

I ordered mine, got a great deal and got what I wanted only- Big Tow, no OffRoad. Part of what made me comfortable was that some of the issues some are having may have been worked out by the time my truck was built while something on the lot could be an older build.

Pot Hole,
I wanted the same thing you are asking for, but could not get it. I researched on Nissan USA and tried to build the truck I wanted and when you key in Offroad package, you automatically get Big Tow. I find it strange that you can get Big Tow without OR package though. Galaxy BT OR 4x4 CC.

My 1st Titan was a 4x4 XE KC with Off Road Package and No Big TOW package. It was on the dealers lot.

Skeeter, I did the same thing you did (designed my truck on the Nissan web site), however, I was able to build one with Off-Road, but no Big Tow. Go back and try again and click on Off-Road with 4x4 (not Off-Road with 4X2) and see what happens. My designed truck (which included a sliding bed divider, floor mats, and the infamous DOC fee) priced out at MSRP $34,230. Let me know what you get.

Drauden,

I'm going to try a search (outside of my local area) to see if a truck like I want exists in another area/state. If I start finding some, then I'm going to tell the dealer that if she wants my business then she better get started looking for one!

The Big Tow is a good deal. It is really nice to have a tranny temp guage and the mirrors are nice. By the time you buy the hitch & relays you are spending quite a bit of $. I think the only reason not to get the Big Tow is if you hate the big mirrors. (as you will already be getting the lower rear axle ratio with the OR anyway so no effect on mpg) I would think the Big Tow would help on resale value also.

Excellent suggestion!

Too bad those people getting paid at the dealer, you know the ones who are called salespeople, too bad they can't seem to do this...

{sorry, ending dealership rant now...}

Agreed. And it's very possible that the truck I end up with has BT on it (for your very reasons).

It may seem petty, but I never liked being told that I had to buy something that had features I didn't want just because it was easier to find it made that way.

Pot Hole,
The reason I couldn't get the OR w/o the BT is because I have an LE. I just tried the Nissan site again and you can split it up on the SE but not the LE. I also wanted the Nav package, but with the LE you had to get a moonroof and DVD which added another $2350 to the total. I wasn't willing to go there since I just bought a dual screen DVD from Walmart for $200. Nissan wants $1450 for theirs because it's built in. No thanks.
Dealer had to go 6 hours to get my truck because I wanted the LE, but without the Nav pacakage and there were none in the area. Seems Nissan thinks if you want the LE you must want everything?

I think the most compelling reason to get OR without BT is if you want the e-locker. When you get BT, you also get VDC, and when you have VDC, you cant get the elocker.

I bought an offroad XE 4x4 CC without big tow off the lot. Like you Pot Hole I only have a small boat to pull so I convinced the dealer to throw in a Nissan receiver hitch and wiring. My truck doesn't however have the E-locker or VDC. Might have been easier to find since mine is an XE not a SE.

My first Titan had the off OR and no BT. I didn't care for it, so I took it back and the dealer swapped the truck out for another one.

I have LE with BT but not OR. I wanted both, but the only truck with both was Canteen and wife vetoed the color. Red Brawn was OK with her. I think I like Red better after all, but OR would have been nice.

I have a KC 4x4 offroad SE. I origanolly wanted BT more than offroad but since I have same drivetrain I added a hitch reciever $229 and now have max towing capacity. Worked out better considering that I will probably use my truck offroad during deer hunting season and the chance of towing a trailer is small for now.
