Titan A/C Blower Fan & VBC install...FIX!

Well... my almost 3 year old titan with 72000miles, a/c blower fan and 5-fin variable blower control module (VBC) went out.

I have the NON dual climate control a/c. I have the standard A/C just so you all know.

So here are some pictures of what the factory Nissan Titan blower fan looks like after 3 years of use, bearing failure and....RUST! I even found a pine needle and some leaves in my fan...weird...

Also, on a positive note I have even posted a picture of which bolts and connectors you need to disconnect/unscrew to replace your blower fan and VBC if yours ever goes out.

This whole replacement start to finish was about 30mins... very simple.

Pics of all the components of rusted, haggard, beat up, Siemens/Nissan AC blower fan assembly.

Well enough on the destruction of the old blower motor, which it took me longer to take apart this thing than it did to replace a new blower motor and VBC.

Here is the HOW-TO for you fellow Do-it-yourself'ers.

Tools Needed.

Blower Fan Unit and VBC are located under Glove box on passenger Side.

-Ratchet 1/4in drive, 3in extension.
-7mm socket
-5.5mm socket
-Flat blade screwdriver to remove plugs
-Flashlight
-Cigarettes (well....just saying)

If you guys/girls have any questions about the install. Let me know.

I will say this though, I got these parts at my local Nissan Dealership and the VBC and Blower Fan unit set me back $380.

So if your A/C fan ever starts staying on high or low speeds no matter what the dial/knob is set too... or like my situation the fan stayed on high even if the knob was turned off. Then it is 99% most likely the Variable Control Module(VBC).

If you hear chirping/grinding/squealing coming from under your glove box, I hate to say it but its time to replace your Blower fan unit.

If you wanna buy parts, go to MightyTitans, PM member 'BigBruno' (David Riddle) he is a parts dept manager for Douglas Nissan. He will hook you up. I have ordered from him before. Very Reputable and quick shipping and cost a hella less than local dealers.

Also, Remember when ordering parts to supply the tech with the last 8 digits of your VIN so you get the right part #s.

Happy Motoring!

Re: Titan A/C Blower Fan & VBC install...FIX!

check to make sure you have the filters in place. The last time i changed mine, i knocked a couple of leaves down into the fan, and it started making a heck of a racket. if you had leaves and pine needles in there, you may be missing the filters.

Adding them may also extend the life of the new fan!

Re: Titan A/C Blower Fan & VBC install...FIX!

I pulled mine just to make sure there was nothing in it, as I have found before. It's the bearings going out.
I can get a used one for about $50 from an 09', which is better then the $200 for an OEM from the dealer.

The filter you guys are referring too is the in cabin filter right? I was wondering about changing that or any other interior filters for the A/C components.

Could you guys explain how to remove the glove box or the steps on how to remove/change these filters you were referring too?

Re: Titan A/C Blower Fan & VBC install...FIX!

It will depend on if you have dual climate control or just standard. Make sure they use your VIN to pull up the correct VBC and Blower fan. You don't want to get the wrong finned VBC since it is a resistor.

Or you can just pull the VBC out, only two bolts holding it in and cross check the serial/product number on it and Nissan should be able to get the exact one.

Re: Titan A/C Blower Fan & VBC install...FIX!

Lower your glove box door and look up to the right and you will see the screw for the door that covers the filters. I ended up pulling the fan to get the leaves pine needles acorns that dropped down and used a small shop vac to clean aiirways also lifted visor piece under wipers and sucked it clean, Hope this helps

Very nice writeup...thanks bro.

I have a question, is there any possibility to change my blower to a better one?? I have an 04 and my max blower setting on the dial is 4. I want it to blow stronger. I have seen newer model dials that are not numbered, they have dashes or whatever you wanna call them. It looks like these would blow stronger, or am I wrong and there is nothing I can do??

Thanks!

Re: Titan A/C Blower Fan & VBC install...FIX!

I honestly can't say, I know you have to use the correct VBC for the Blower Fan, And I'm not 100% sure if the Blower motor/fan even changed over the years, you would have to cross reference your year model to say an 08 or newer
