Tire Wear

I purchased my truck in Feb and my rear tires are already showing signs of wear. Its pretty sad only 11k miles and the rear tires have no more traction. Its down to about 15% and the front has about 40% left. Air pressure was also not a problem on all 4 tires when i checked them. How long do they usually last under normal usage?

Did you rotate them @ 5,000 miles? OEM tires are usually only good for 25,000 miles. Though I had a set of Michelins on my BMW 740il last for over 50,000.

What Brand of tires came on your truck? What is your driving style? Do you rotate your tires?
I would be very disappointed to get only 25,000 miles from any modern "name brand" tire...unless I made them disappear magically, in a "Puff of Smoke"
Thanks,
Dave

I have the GoodYear SR-A's on my LE-CC. My take on tires is that in order to make a tire that last a long time, you a) make it very hard which affects the ride quality and wet weather traction or b) you make the tread deep which makes the tire noisy.

Personally I bought my loaded LE to enjoy and have utility, and not to off-road. Therefore, I would rather have a softer tire that I replace every 25-30k miles than a hard tire that lasts 40k or more. I have had issues in the past with alignment or balance and it can do some major damage to a tire before you notice it and by then its too late. If that happens at 15-20k miles .. no biggie, its time for tires soon.

I should also mention that the LE tires (18") are cheap! Tire Rack had them for $99 last week, this week they are $109 (varies). I'm bought four and I will put them in the attic until I need them. The off road versions (which yes will last longer) are twice the price. If you get a nail in the side wall, its also nice to have the cheap (25k) tires.

Just my .02, but I will say that tire noise is not a problem from the 18" OEM tires. They are very quite.

I have the 18" SR-A's also and agree they are quiet. I don't expect they will last all that long as the seem to have a pretty soft compound. My main need is highway snow and rain (vs. offroad) and I expect these SR A's will be OK for this winter. I hope we'll see more tire choices coming out in the 18" diameter over the next couple years.
