Is this a common practice?: Free Gas with Nissan Survey

Since I purchased my Titan in May, I have received two Nissan surveys. One for the dealer purchase experience and one for a visit with the service department. Both times, my dealer told me in advance that I was getting a survey from Nissan, and if I complete the survey and bring it to the dealership, I would get a free tank of gas. Their explanation was to encourage more owners to submit their survey. For the purchase experience survey, I raved about the salesperson but gave poor rating for the finance guy. I did take the survey to the dealer to get a free tank of gas. I was wondering if they actually mailed it to Nissan. I now have another one for a service dept. visit. I intend to put down some constructive criticism, but I am debating whether to get the free gas or mail the survey directly to Nissan... I'm curious as to how common this practice is amongst Nissan dealers...

Did the same thing for me. I was very happy with my dealership/salesperson so I gave them great marks and got my free tank of gas.

Since I don't think the surveys are anonymous, call Nissan and ask if they got it. I doubt they can tell you, but hey, it's worth a shot.


As far as the survey goes, my Nissan dealer does nothing like that but my Honda dealership gave me discounted oil changes for it.

I filled out the surveys here in Upstate New York and didn't get anything free. Kudos to you and the dealership for the incentive.

I got a free gas fill-up and a free oil change from my dealership.

The reason they have you do that is that as salespeople, we are graded by those surveys. If you mark the best box, it's 100, if you mark any other box it's a 0. It's REALLY stupid. I.E., I get a $300 bonus every month if my CSI (customer satisfaction Index) is above district average. If it's below I get a $150 fine. A lot of people don't believe that, but it's the truth. Also, salespeople get graded on the whole thing, not just the sales section. It's retarded.

You're in Albuquerque, right? What dealership if I may ask? I'm dealing w/ Melloy for my XE/CC and sure could use some advance info on what they are willing to offer.

Yep, i took full advantage of this offer. They said that anything less than excellent was not acceptable.

They offered me a free tank of gas and I was told not to fill it out, to just give it to them and they would fill it out. I was more than happy to fill it out and mail it myself. As for the gas, my truck was in the shop for 29 days here and there, so I got 4 tanks out of them anyway.

My service manager offered 2 free oil changes... I said No - I only trust myself with those...

So he offerred a dash mat... Might take him up on that... But they gotta satisfy my brake judder problem first!

My dealer offered the free tank of gas if I brought the survey in without it filled out (i.e. they would fill it out for me and send it in). I'll do that, but I'm making a copy of the survey and filling it out myself and mailing the copy in as well. I'm just waiting to get the gas tank low enough to make it worthwhile to take the survey to them.
