Convince me, Titan or Tundra

Test drove a Double Cab 4x4 Tundra and really like it. Smooth and refined. I'm not a rich man, and will be taking a leap with either truck financially, and have owned more than one yota trouble free. Only thing I don't like is the 240 hp, but plan on slapping a SC on it anyway. Drove the Titan, and have been flip flopping for the past month between the two. I'll say this much, the general concensus is that Nissan hasn't been taking care of Titan owners very well, and the MPG really suck, and varies. But damn if it isn't a strong engine..

I dont think you will find many people on this site that is not going to recommend the Titan over the Tundra. I guess you will need to decide for yourself which one fits your needs better. For me it was a no brainer (especially if you need to tow anything).

A no brainer for me also! I have a boat to tow, and there is nothing I can think of that I like on the Tundra better then on the Titan.

Honestly, if you're going to get the supercharger and the price compares, I'd go with the Toyota if for no other reason that Nissan hasn't quite got the bugs worked out. If you can wait another couple months the 05's will be out. I suspect they'll be quite a bit better since those Japanese engineers have been down in Canton fixing the 1st year quality issues. Of course, rumor is Toyota is supposed to have an all new truck for '05 with much more power...

Interior width and comfort- advantage Titan
Towing capacity- advantage Titan
5-speed tranny- advantage Titan
Engine power- advantage Titan
Bed capacity- advantage Titan

These were the biggies for me. I have an old '95 Hardbody, and I can't believe the "full-size" Tundra feels only slightly wider than my Hardbody

When I tow I like to never exceed 75% of the vehicle's max rating, thus the Titan will give me a nice huge safety margin

As someone who has not owned an automatic tranny in the past 28 years the 5-speed manual shift auto is one of the few automatics I think I can live with

Wow, I knew I had to have this engine when I heard it idle

Because I have decided to go with a full-size truck I want a real full size one

The Tundra is a good truck, but for me the Titan will be a better fit.

My 2¢, I would not worry about the little problems with the Titan, I suspect the 200 some Japanese quality control engineers are going to solve a lot of problems in a short period of time. Nissan has made a HUGE investment in the Titan project, they can not afford to have it fail!

Depending on your timing, you might want to wait a little bit for the '05 Titan. I think they are going to be correcting some of the problems you are seeing on this forum.

I know of only a few cases where Nissan hasn't been taking care of their customers (and wrongfully so imho). Toyota does this too (sludged engine fiasco etc).

Tundra DC gets 10city/14mixed/18hwy, my own Titan with 1500 miles is doing a little better at 14.8mixed/18hwy (thankfully no city driving yet, I can only guess what throwing a s/c on the Tundra would do to mpg ).

And yes its a strong engine, and the Titan costs less (the two reasons I myself did not get the Tundra). I do give the nod to Toyota in overall build quality, but the bang for buck ratio is no match.

Here's my other dillema. I want to wait for the 05's on both. But, I will be heading back to Iraq/Kuwait again for another 14 months in September or so. May just wait till I get back, but what if I can't??

Do you have somebody (e.g. wife) here that will be needing the truck while you are gone? Otherwise you are taking a beating for two months of truck use, with payments, insurance, registration, taxes, and 14 months of depreciation, as well as the warranty running while you are not using the truck.

Going with the Titan is a no brainer decision.

The titan drive train alone has these selling points:

More torque
More HP
32 valves
Timing chain rather than timing belt
5 speed auto transmission
gated shifter
VDC
Tow mode

Man,I have looked at Ford,Chevy and Nissan. Not much on the Dodge and the Tundra seems like a 3/4 scale truck.I will be purchasing a new truck in a couple of months and the Titan is the leading candidate. It offers so many features for a reasonable price.

Guess I didn't think about the warranty running the whole time I'd be gone, well sh*t. Now I have to re-think this whole process. See, this is my 3rd combat tour, and knock on wood, I've been good to go thus far. But now, I have an itch to live large before I leave this time.

i recommend the TITAN all the way over the 7/8 tundra, but if you do plan on getting a tundra get an 05 tundra. they are bumping the hp up to 286 with 328 lb. ft. of torque. check out tundrasolutions.com for details, they are crappin their pants over there.
