Checking the diff fluid level

OK, I know how to remove the plug and check for fluid. I do not know what the level should be or how to measure it.

Thanks for your help.

Park the truck on level ground. The fluid level should be even with the bottom of the fill hole, such that the addition of any more fluid will cause it to run out of the fill hole.

Remove the plug - if visible or dribbles out replace the plug and call it a day. If not, stick yer pinky in (or a friends) and see if you feel any. Since gear oil stinks like dead dinosaurs you can also take a coat hanger and bend the last 3/4" down and use it as a dip stick. Oh Hell ! if nothing comes out fill that puppy until some dribbles out!
