Telephone pole 1 Me 0

Thats right, I took out my driver side mirror, YAY!!! , It was pouring rain outside, my nephews where bouncing off the walls in the backseat and I was reversing in a very tight parking lot and BAMN! I look to see my mirror all messed up against a telephone pole.

So I pull up and the top mirror was hanging by the defrost wires and the bottom mirror was missing. So in the pouring rain I sucked it up and left, got to my next destination and popped back on the top mirror with no noticeable damage. I then went to see Shriek2, afterwards I returned to pick the bottom mirror to find that it wasn't going to pop back on.

Oh well the whole mirror housing is on order at the dealer the bastages better warrenty that thing. The service guy didnt ask how it happened, so I am playing it off that it fell off in my hand when adjusting it.

I think there ought to be a law against those telephone poles from moving into your path!

Why should the dealer warranty the mirror that YOU broke? Dealer probably won't touch that with a 10ft pole since it probably pretty obvious that you broke it off. If they warranty that, then I guess I shouldn't be paying $1100 for doing almost the same thing (backing into a very tight parking space and scraping a carport support pillar along my rear fender). Pay the couple hundred bucks for it and suck it up.

Don't be a hater

How is breaking a pivot point inside the housing which holds the convex mirror on the bottom in place, the same as scraping the side of your ride.

They will warrenty it because there is no damage other than the 1/4 inch piece of plastic, now if the whole mirror was missing well then I would understand them asking questions.

As for everybody else , thanks for the support and keep on truckin

I agree, the dealership/manufacture should not have to pay for a mistake you made. I'm sorry that you damaged your mirror, but be honest and don't try and screw someone else for it.

I also own a Subaru WRX. In the few years that this car has been out, Subaru dealerships are getting VERY strict about who gets warranty work. This is because many people think that they can abuse thier car and when something breaks all they have to do is swap any aftermarket parts back to stock and bring it back for a free repair. I am performance minded person and I like to take my car to road courses and track days. I know that if something breaks as a result of my enthusiastic driving, I am the one who should pay for it. This is not to say that any warranty work on a modified car should be denied. A genuine warranty claim will still be honored if the failure is not related to a part/system that has been modified.

I know you have not modified anything and you broke a mirror, but my point is that you are taking advantage of someone else to pay for your mistake.

Yep, I agree.

I wouldn't be proud of hitting a pole, but I would be ashamed of not taking responsibility for it. I hope the nephews weren't there at the dealer and heard their Uncle lie about it...... another generation learns from their elders....

Well, I completely disagree with you there - especially in the case of the WRX, since it came with a SCCA membership when purchased. That is a message from the company which says "our car can take the abuse - have fun with it".

I am not screwing anybody, I think Nissan can spare the mirror the service guy didn't ask so I didn't give up any information.

Seriously people if you have something to say, think it through and make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

You are being dishonest, almost as bad as theft. Yes, replacement auto parts are overpriced, as is everything else in this world, but who do you think is really paying for that mirror? (Hint: it isn't Nissan)

I had my passenger mirror housing replaced at the dealer's cost after some a**hole broke it off on me. I went to the dealer and showed it to them, they ordered a complete new mirror and installed it. Total cost of the passenger side double mirror is around $350.

The service guys laughed and said I probably did it until they looked at it and saw the scratches on the front and side which were made by a baseball bat or something wooden about the same size. We figured it was some Ford or Dodge guy.
