Problem-Oil Filler Opening

After 4000 miles, I go in for the second oil change and what happens, the oil filler neck and cap come off. It looks like nissan used some type of glue for lack of better words to attach the oil filler. Anyone else hear of this crazy problem.

They use to be just a press fit in most cars that I have seen over the years. I have not had to take one off in a long time though, so maybe they are sealing them in these days.

I think I should clarify more the situation, I went to the local quick oil change shop since most dealerships don't have hours that fit into my work schedule. Will never do that again, would be much better to drive until I can make time right.

Three employees hunkered around my truck looking at this odd piece of plastic. My first reaction was awww sh#$#$#, I knew I should not have come here. Never again.

Luckliy the nissan dealership is up the street and I drop it off, and they are like sorry you need to take it up with the guys who changed the oil.

So be careful when you change your own oil.

Another tibit of information. I thought nothing about this at until now. but when I first got my truck I noticed that it looked like oil had been spilled around the area where the oil filler valve exists. I wonder if it was not a spill but rather a leak that contributed to the breakdown of the seal or sealent.

Anyone else notice it in your titan.

"So be careful when you change your own oil."

It's o.k., I always just take the cap off. I have never had the urge to yank the fill pipe out by the roots.

I think I will have to attach a sticker to my engine in florescent yellow with above statement. Just in case I forget this experience.

I read your post when you first posted and the very next day I changed my oil and was thinking about what happenned to you and they must have hit it with something to break it. The neck seems very strong in my opinion and I can't see how it would come off unless something heavy broke it off. Any update on your problem?

Nissan is replacing the valve cover, which i guess includes the oil filler opening $500, and the quick lube place is getting a bill....

The only think I can think of is when the quick lube guys were pumping oil in to it, they use those long metal nozzle things and it possible the person may have raked it, even still that should not have been enough force to take if off IMO and if it was its a poor design by nissan.

Like I told the nissan service guy, these guys are not banging on my oil filler opening with a hammer or playing tug with it.
