Flex Fuel E85

So I just got a 2009 LE with the flex fuel motor. I have not used any of the E85 fuel yet and before I do I just wanted to ask if their are any negative issues associated with that kind of gas. Any comments would be great. Thank

Re: Flex Fuel E85

My buddy had a S10 with flex fuel set up and it provided more power but less mileage when he used the E85.

YES MORE POWER BUT THAT STUFF IS NASTY ON THE FUEL PUMPS If your fuel pump is in the tank then watch out e-85 is hell on pumps because the pumps plastic housing don't like and if you don't use a cleaner often you well see slow starts and less miles.on my third pump Nissan spec on them is my truck has 146000 on it. 05 cc le off road big tow .

Re: Flex Fuel E85

Probably 20-25% less mpg. Anecdotally I also noticed that my Titan took longer to start on the E85.

The above post is my opinion....nothing more.

Re: Flex Fuel E85

Reduction in mileage without an equal reduction in cost.

E85 has about a 28% lower energy density than regular gas which you can use as an indicator of how much worse your mileage will be. So, if you're not getting the E85 for 28% less than regular, skip on it. Unless of course you're just tree hugging, and if so, knock your socks off but expect to fill up quite a bit more frequently.

The flex fuel Titans have a different fuel pump, and different fuel system components which are designed to withstand the added stresses of running E-85. If you are running E-85 in a non-flex fuel titan, then no wonder you are burning up fuel pumps. All the gas up here has at least 10% ethanol, and I have never had any fuel system issues in my '05 LE offroad big tow Flex Fuel with over 100k miles.

No tree hugging benefits, either. Just a complete scam.

I think he's from Austin where they do a lot of bassackward things in the name of keeping it weird.

Hope you don't want to actually drive yourself to the F1 race and park, for example. But there are showers for the folks who bicycle to the event.

Re: Flex Fuel E85

Just wait, the government will mandate a lot more ethenol in fuel. It is no longer about the environment, but how to subsidize these massive agrigultural industries and line the pockets of beaurcrats and CEO's with revenue.

Re: Flex Fuel E85

I am not so much concerned with the environmental benefits of the E85. I just wanted to make sure that their were no major issues with using that fuel. It runs about 50 cents cheaper per gallon at the HEB near my house but it sounds like you get less miles per gallon so I would be filling up more often. Oh well its nice to have the option and to know that the flex fuel engine will handle the ever increasing % of ethanol that is being added gas.

Re: Flex Fuel E85

Yeah, I've been eyeing the E85 at the HEB here in Schertz now that gas is climbing back up there. It's $.30/gallon less than regular unleaded. And I work in construction so I've seen the 'Green Building' BS firsthand. You can build a bike rack and shower room to get a LEED point. Once the building is LEED certified I guess you get a warm feeling? Not sure what else it's good for. I took a picture of my Titan last week at the parking garage at the Pearl Brewery...in a spot with a sign that said "for low emitting/fuel efficient vehicles." Kiss my V8!
