Oil filter cross reference needed

What aftermarket filters will work for the Titan. I went to Walmart tonight and looked in their book of filters and the Titan is too new to be listed. Anyone know what other makes of filters work?

Also, what rear end gear oil are you using. I use Mobil 1 75w-90 in my motorcycle final drive and I see some of you are using this in the Titan too. Truck has 3500 miles on it and I figure I better check the rear end oil since there was the issue of rear diff problems.

Thanks
Mike

K&N offer aftermarket oil filters - HP-1010 is the K&N part number for oil filters that fit to a Titan (found via K&N's online application search based on 2004 Titan 5.6L engine http://www.knfilterchargers.com/search/appsearch.aspx ). I'm sure the FRAM oil filters should work also. If you check with a local parts shop (AutoZone, etc) they should have info in regards to the availability of oil filters for Titan's.

Yup, I used the K&N Filter for my last change. It's actually nicer than the standard Nissian oil filter cause the stock oil filter is so small that a standard filter wrench will not fit over the filter. I had to buy a special strap filter wrench to fit around the small Nissian filter. The K&N filter on the other hand is just as small BUT it has a very nice bolt on the end that makes it a breeze to remove. You kind of have to see one to know what I mean. Good luck.

Why dont you just go to the dealer? New ones are under $6.

VW, Lots of tool companies make a filter wrench that looks like a big socket that fits over the end of the filter. Use a 3/8 or 1/2 drive ratchet to turn it. You have to find one that fits the diameter of the filter that you are using, and also the number of splines on the end of the filter. I am going to get one before my next oil change, there is not much room for a strap type wrench, and I already have 12 Nissan filters.

Because it does not have the bolt on the end and the Nissan one is hard for me to take off. The K&N filters are about 8 or 9 bucks.

If they are so hard to take off, dont put them on so tight. I 'll agree that the stock one was impossible for me to take off with my hands so I had to get a tool. When I put on a new one I just put it on till the rubber o-ring touches, then snug it about another 1/2 turn. I can take them off with my hands (actually gloves) and it doesnt leak!!!

My 75W-90 RedLine gear lube will be here tomorrow. I intend on changing it at the first "planned" service interval. I already changed the oil at approx 1100 miles.

Because I did not know that. Might just go with Nissan (or whoever really makes them). The size isn't an issue. I have two strap wrenches, one small and one large one. If can get my tiny motorcycle ones off, that are crammed tight behind my headers, I should be able to get this one off.

I went to the parts store and they cross referenced it for me. Fram PH7317. WIX 51536. Parts guy couldn't believe how small it is! I can't either.

Before the first oil change I didn't watch the oil pressure gauge that much. After seeing how small the filter is, I check it a little more often. The first change I put on a Pure One Ultra. Under normal running conditions, the gauge was slightly higher than the mid mark. Goose it hard and the pressure went past the high mark. Now I have the WIX filter. Pressure runs at the mid point in normal conditions. Goose it and it goes to slightly below the high mark. Both times I have used 10W-30 oil. Any one else using Nissan filters see the same thing?
Next time I change the oil I will put a Nissan back on to see if there is a difference.

IMADOGMAN, excellent deal! Thanks.

BMAX, WIX/NAPA Gold filters are pretty good too. Just stay away from fram.
