Part I
---------
The day started with a trip to Advantage Nissan for my 3750 mile checkup, which included oil change and a check of front and rear diff fluid levels. I also said my truck was included in the radio TSB, which I presented, and told them I was having the fade issues.
So, they worked on my truck, and the mechanic came out and told me they didn't have a fix for the radio because Rockford Fosgate doesn't know what's wrong and doesnt' have a fix for it. And the conversation progressed as follows:
Me: "Actually, Rockford Fosgate doesn't make the radio, or any part of the sound system. The radio is a Panasonic."
Joe: "That doesn't matter, either way, RF or Clarion, they haven't figured out the problem"
Me: "That's odd, because Nissan has issued a service bulliten for the radio."
Joe: "Well, there wasn't anything wrong with the radio."
Me: "Did you drive it? It does it every time I go to work, in the same area of the road. The treble fades in and out, just like the TSB describes."
Joe: "Oh, well I saw some sort of power cable running from your battery. Did you install a sound system?"
Me: "Yes, I installed an amp and sub."
Joe: "Did you use crimp-butt connectors? Because Nissan only approves of soldering. That could void your warrenty."
Me: "Yes, I used butt connectors, and that's not my radio problem. I've installed many radios, and I know how to do it."
Joe: "Oh"
So the mechanic talked to the parts guy, and the parts guy told me he would order me a new radio and have it here in a week. They also asked if they could have my copy of the TSB, and I said yes and gave it to them.
My "new" radio arrives in a week. It better not have these problems either. ie, they better not pull some old one off the shelf.
Part II
-----------
The gas light came on in Clear Lake, and seeing as how the light is overprotective by about 5 gallons, I figured I would fill up in Houston after driving 30 miles to IKEA. Well, I arrived, and traffic was bad, so I figured I would fill up on the way home back to clear lake...but didn't quite make it. 10 miles outside of town, by the Beltway 8, I ran out of gas.
Took 26.5 gallons to fill up, after adding 1 gallon to get me to the nearest gas station. 340 miles on 27.5 gallons...
