Strange sound at low speed when AC on

This is a hard one to explain, but wondering if anyone has this issue and/or if anyone knows what it is.

First, I only notice this if the AC is set to "1" and I am accelerating from a stop. And obviously, the radio is turned down low.

Basically, when I accelerate from a stop I hear a low whine (almost like metal spinning). Kinda sounds like it is coming from the AC vents, but I'm not sure. It only lasts a few seconds then disappears. Seems to be when I am at around 10-20 MPH. After that, the sounds goes away.

The only reason I even notice it is because I still love to listen to the roar of the engine and end up hearing that dang whine.

Wish I could do a better job explaining the sound, but can not seem to come up with a good metaphor.

Hopefully someone out there knows what I am talking about.

My truck sounds like Darth Vader.

Just picked mine up this weekend. Love it but, I too have noticed a weird hissing sound from the AC.

Do a search on the hiss. There was a long discussion on it a while back, but I'm not sure if they came to a conclusion.

I get that metal almost whining sound, too. And the Darth Vader sound. The metal sound at low speeds is when my dial is turned to the defrost/floorboard or the defrost setting for heat and defrosting when I accelerate. The Darth Vader sound is typically on non-defrost settings. Any ideas? I looked at the potential TSB for it but says build dates before Dec 12, 2003. Mine was built in 08/2004. Any word on this? Can I take it in and get this done for mine?

Yeap, the old "Darth Vader" hiss that many on this forum, including me, have. Fortunately, old "Darth" has his volume turned down on mine and it's not particularly bothersome. Just hope it doesn't get any louder!
