Loud Fan Noise?

Is it normal for the fan in the front of the truck to be really loud when idling? I can sometimes even hear it over the engine noise when I'm inside my truck. I've never heard a fan that loud before and want to make sure it is normal with the Titans.

Thanks.

Get a Flowmaster.

Actually I don't notice it unless the windows are rolled down, but I'm normally listening to music. I assume you are talking about the auxillary electric fan not the mechanical fan.

The push fan is pretty loud. I wouldn’t worry about it sounds & looks like a Hayden & they last quite a while. It’s fairly exposed so perhaps we just notice it more. We have plenty of room for a Flex or Hayden aftermarket fan & that might be a cool mod.

But yes they are loud & I wouldn't worry.

Mine is loud too - wondering the same thing. No problems other than the noise though.

I also have the hood rattle that RS250R references in his post. I have tracked it down to the latching mechanism. When the hood is shut, there is still play in the hood when you push down on it. It is as if the latch is too far up. I adjusted the hood "bumpers" on each side of the hood hoping that would hold the hood tight up against the latch, but the "bumpers" don't seem long enough to make a difference. If anyone knows anything about this hood rattle please post. As far as the fan rattle, I have no rattle but the fan is noticeable with the windows down or when outside the truck. I don't think it's a problem; more air--cooler engine, and with an all aluminum engine, that's something we need!! Thanks.

I also have the noisy Aux Fan deal. I can actually feel it vibrate in the steering wheel if at a stand still and it kicks on??? Maybe they will come out with a TSB??

Check on http://clubtitan.org Jettech has a fix for the vibrating fan problem. I think he added another bolt or two to secure it better.

Re: Loud Fan Noise?

I have an '06 Titan and it has the same very loud fan noise. Do you still have yours and if so, have you found a solution yet? Mine's so loud I'm thinking of trading it.

Re: Loud Fan Noise?

Is it the fan that circulates the air inside the cabin? I just noticed it yesterday, it doesn't seem to be affecting anything, but it makes me nervous. I only hear it when i'm stopped and the AC is on.

Re: Loud Fan Noise?

I may be way off on this but I think it is a clutch fan. They are loud but very effective when towing heavy in lots of heat. If I shut my truck down when it is hot the thing will kick on when I start it and run for a while until I get the truck moving and get air flowing through the coolers. I owned an 04 duramax and the thing would run all the time. The fan in my titan is just fine compared to that. Even when towing.

Re: Loud Fan Noise?

I have this noise also. It is not all the time but every now and then. It actually sounds like a grinding noise when it kicks on and runs. I have yet to find a fix.

Titans have a clutch fan, and an electric fan that sits in front of the A/C evaperator. The electric one is the loud one...although I personally don't find mine to be all that loud.

Re: Loud Fan Noise?

Just for info , I have the 2007 Titan that is supposed to need a fix for the fan. So I checked it out today and when it kicks on it turns in reverse and tries to blow the air out the front instead of through the a/c evaporator. This makes it even more loud if you ask me . You guys might want to check yours with the AC on and see which way yours turns.

Re: Loud Fan Noise?

This has been a known problem for a long time. I had the same thing happen on my 04. If I remember, there was a fix for this that you could do yourself that involved wrapping some electrical tape around a metal flange that the fan housing uses to mount to the front end. What happens is there is play in the mounting and when the electrical fan kicks on it vibrates the housing which causes the loud noise.

Search around, I know I've seen this fix somewhere.
