Very nice! But They just don't rev fast enough to put the HP to the ground like a gas V8 does. Very high torque makes them easy to smoke the wheels by brake standing but side by side, the Titan will be up to 60 before that truck would hit 40...they just don't rev fast enough. All that torque will do is break the tires loose. Now once moving, it would probably fly. Any idea what that trucks speed numbers are? I bet they're not 7.0 to 60. Thanks again, cool vid.
Joe,
I'll check for you and get back.

I for one am definetly hoping that I don't mile out my Titan before they come out with the diesel--As long as I can do that a Titan diesel will definetly be my next truck and one that I will keep for quite a while. As for the engine manufactuer I would love to see a cat in it--it would totally drive a lot of guys nuts out where I work--Love to park the cat Titan beside the big cat generators we have out on the rigs and take a few snap shots.

Nissan already has a diesel engine. They sell a 4.2 turbo diesel in AUS and probly other markets. Nissan Heavy Industry should have larger motors if needed. The problem is emission in the US are stopping most new TD technology. VW is selling the new Jetta TDI as an 06 instead of an 07 to get around some laws.
BTW Nissan has a partnership with Renault and they share a turbo diesel engine now. How would you feel about the Renault powered Titan?
It wouldn't make a difference IMHO whos Diesel it is really. If there's going to be a Diesel Titan, you can bet it will be one that's already here in the states. Not that Nissan won't do it but, if they use one of their own Diesel engines, it will cost a lot more because it has to be certified for US use. That's the reason for looking at the Cummins as well as others already in use here.

A heavy diesel engine will change the handling of our trucks a lot. It is true that you can make a diesel run fast in a straight line but it takes a bit to get them going. I have all diesels in my company and the Titan stock is quicker than any of the new diesels stock. It is expensive to modify a diesel but they can be made to run fast. They will always handle poorly. They handle like a truck. That heavy diesel engine in the front will make for a poor handling vehicle. Off road the front heavy diesel is at a disadvantage too. Diesels have their place.
As far as the engine longivity issue how many here are going to wear out theire gas engines. Unless you are a commercial or someone special the engine will outlast the primary user unless it is not taken care of. Right now the cost of the engine is just part of it. You need a heavier transmission, rear, etc so that makes the diesel more expensive yet.

I purposely passed the Titan in favor of a 'tier because I know Nissan will have a diesel powered Titan soon. Also, working for a Medium Duty dealer that services GMC/Isuzu, Hino(A Toyota Group), and UD(Universal Diesel) a Nissan North America Group, I figured if Nissan already owns UD, they will just port a UD diesel drivetrain into the Titan. Now I don't think that is going to happen. UD, like many other Medium and Heavy Duty engine manufacturers, is having a hard time making an engine that is compliant with the new Federal Emissions Standards for diesel engines. In fact, we have been getting '06 UD trucks in our shop with rebadged Hino(Toyota) engines. In fact, some of the filters for these engines are directly from Hino, with a stop somewhere so someone can slit the wrapper and slap a UD sticker over the Hino logo and part number.
I've also heard that Nissan was lookin at the Int'l DT466 for the Titan, but I hope not because I really, really hate dealing with International.
As for why no-one has picked up Cat's small diesel for "light truck" use... I honestly couldn't say. I could have swore Chevy was going to use it, but I'm guessing much like Ford taking the failed PowerStroke over the Cummins 5.9l, I'm sure Chevy is more confident in the DuraMax than it is in the Cat C7. And don't get me wrong, some of the new Chevy/GM C Series trucks that have come in with the DuraMax/Allison 6sp trannies in them are absolutely sic to drive! Literally a dream as far as power on demand and smoothness.
I just hope Nissan makes a good choice on how they decide to supply a turbo diesel engine for the Titan, because my 'tier is an '05 and when the Diesel Titan gets released, the 'tier is getting super sized!
I would LOVE the chance to trade my 2005 SE crew cab for a Turbo Diesel Titan pickup - bring it on! My Case backhoe has a diesel engine and it was wonderful to work with - literally pushed over many houses with it doing demolition and excavation. Big Deisel power for a big well made pickup sounds great to me. And if you run it off of peanut oil - smells great - just like a cook off!

i couldn't agree more the titan is a pretty agile truck for being full size..and putting a diesel engine in it could change all that.

Nissan would be smart to put a recognizable name such as Cat in it's diesel, name recognition is big in trucks if you don't believable me look how many folks purchased the Hemi because of its history even though its not the original 426. You can mod a diesel easier and cheaper then a gas engine but your gonna pay big bucks up front for the diesel so you better drive a whole lot to recoup your up front cost in fuel savings. My '05 Silverado averages 19-20 MPG

all you need to do is pop it in 4hi and pre spool the turbo and the diesel will eat the titan for breakfast, heres a video, yes this one is heavily modified but it shows what i mean with the pre-spool

1. Nissan no longer owns any portion of Nissan Diesel. They sold out to Volvo.
2. Renault only currently has one V6 diesel based on an Isuzu D-Max design. That design is very inefficient and there is no extra capacity in the Czech plant where it is made for North America volume.
3. There are a few options for diesel engines in North America but it quickly gets whittled down to only one option. Cummins is in an exclusivity deal with Dodge. CAT, well they don't make anything "consumer grade", it is all big heavy and yellow. ITEC is the last and only option.
4. Right now, everyone is gun shy to jump into the heavy duty market. With fuel prices, the very established competition and the low(er) volumes inherent to this market you can understand why Nissan might decide not to jump in.
Sure, anything modded enough will fly. I've seen a jet powered VW Beetle. Stock Diesels are meant for heavy hauling, not sprinting. Throw enough money into any vehicle and it too can be fast.
i drive a completely stock f-350, my dad has an 06 f-150, we raced and i smoked him with a 4x4 launch, yes its very hard on the truck, but when you build up the boost there is no lag, so i'm getting 100% power right away, but yes they are made for hauling, now have you ever pulled your trailer with a diesel?
