Help with detailing an older truck

Ok this is a question about my 94 Toyota not my Titan. What can I do to slick up the black paint on my truck? Should I use clay bar? I have never used it before and wondered how it worked, was applied etc.

Thanks

Clay works great providing that the paint is still in decent shape. What the clay does is remove contaminates from the surface without being abrasive at all. I used it all the time on my S2000 which was black and a PITA to keep clean.

First you have to wash the truck thoroughly.

Then get a spray bottle with a mild mixture of your favorite soap and watter.

Break off a small piece of clay and flatten it out.

Spray the soap mix on about a 1' square section and begin rubbing the clay back and forth on the wetted area, you dont have to spend much time, maybe 45 seconds in the square foot area.

As you continue around the truck, fold and knead the clay to get a clean surface. When you can no longer get a clean surface with the piece you have, use a new one.

If you happen to drop the clay on the ground, chuck it immediatly. It will pick up gravel and junk that will ruin the paint.

When the whole truck is done being clayed, it will look cloudy and crappy. This is just the residue left behind. Now you have to wash it again well, and apply a new coat of wax. This is important because the clay process removes all wax as well as contaminates.

Good luck.

go to www.carcareonline.com and read their how-to-articles.

My .02 is get a Random Orbital Polisher and use P21S cleanser. This is easier for the average joe to use over clay. After the P21S, put on a coat of Meguiars NXT wax.

You'll love it! Lots of folks over at the Porsche forum rave about this combination. Yes, I used this combination on my Porsches.
