wheel/tire question

Hi All,
Need a little help. A while back I switched my XE's wheels and tires. I went to a 17x8 wheel and a 265/70/17 Michelin tire. I love the stance it has but there is a problem. The tires stick out a bit which is causing my truck to constantly get rainwater/mud etc slung all over its sides. Its rainy season here so daily baths are common!!

Heres the question: I am thinking of switching wheels to the offroad package wheel which is 17x7.5 and keeping my 265/70/17's. Will this narrower wheel tuck the tires back in under fender wells for the most part? The stock tire that comes with these wheels are 285/70/17 so I am not sure what the width difference will be but I know a narrower wheel should help some. Thanks for any help
Mike

Do you mean a "Narrower" wheel? The stock off-road 17 inch wheel doesn't spray much onto the sides of the truck, but it does spray some. Your Michelins should be about 3/4 of an inch narrower than the 285/70/17 tire. The main difference might be what offset you have on your wheels compared to stock...

Yep, I meant narrower (and corrected it ). You are right, it could be offset that is causing a lot of difference. Either way it sounds like it may be a little better.

Keep in mind that a wheel that is 1/2 inch narrower, only moves the tire back half of that distance ( 1/4 inch). Not much, but I would guess that the offset is the biggest issue anyway...
