Acceleration and Gearing

Is there a BIG difference with the Titans gearing when it comes to acceleration? I hear a lot Titan owners claiming that their tires break loose under hard acceleration off the line. This must be owners with the big tow or the off road package which have the lower gearing.

I have the Titan LE without the BT or OR package and have never experience tires breaking loose, well unless going around a corner but that does not count. I have the Banks exhaust which makes it sound better (took some time getting used to) but I don’t notice much of a power increase.

Point being, is the Titan with the lower gears faster or is just better for towing? Any way to change gears in the Titan to match those with the big tow or off road? Not looking to “lay rubber” all over but I do enjoy the quick acceleration. Would love it more if it could be quick like other Titan owners…

Same problem, I can't get my tires to spin and it takes a long time to accelerate compared to other titans.

The DA where I live is over 8000FT in the summertime and I cant break them loose (without powerbraking) and I have the 3.36 gears. I consider traction a good thing though. If I ever want to slide around the pavement I got a Z that is more than capable of doing it.

Just put a little oil down in front of the tires, and zoom!

LOL Just kidding..

my Tacoma breaks the tires loose in a straight line. I have 4.10 gears (part of the TRD Offroad Package). People who have Tacoma's with the same engine, but no TRD package have 3.91 gears, and cannot break the tires loose in a straight line.

I also accellerate better. However, my top-speed would be lower than it could be with 3.91 gears -- however I get to 107mph easily -- which is where the speed governor kicks in.

have a SE without the BIG TOW it will role the tires a couple times from a dead stop. I traded in a dakota R/T with the 5.9 360 that would spin the tires though 2 gears from a stop.

That's not right at all. I've seen crappy 4-bangers that can do a nice powerbrake.

I don't know what's going on. I have the LE 4X4, no tow, no off road and I can rip a screech anytime I want.

Something's not right.
When I load up the tranny to do a brake stand the tires start to spin (maybe one complete revolution) then it feels like the brakes grab tighter? When I let off the brakes tires usually don't even chirp then boom I'm gone in a hurry.

I've got the OR and BT and can light up the rears anytime. I think the VDC some have may be the reason the tires won't break loose. The lower rear gears definitely make a difference off the line versus the taller gears and will definitely make you quicker.

Try turning your VDC off. It limits engine output to reduce wheelspin.

Even with vdc off still no spin.I'm confused. When I load the tranny in the wife's Jetta (1.8t Auto)as soon as I let off the brake the tires break loose for a minimum 6 feet.

I hope I don't develop spin length issues.LOL.

I have found that the helper springs as suggested by JetTech dramatically reduce wheel spin. I don't find wheel spin to be a desirable thing.

My Titan will not spin the tires on dry pavement. My friends Dodge Hemi would not spin the tires either, until he found some info on a dodge web site about disconecting the traction control. Now it will smoke the tires. I'm wondering if the Titan might have the same situation.
