Engine has to be replaced after only 3,600 miles

SO.... I havn't been here in a long time... want to know why?

I have been busy.

About 3 weeks ago I went to take a ride to Taco Bell... start the TITAN, put her in reverse and I notve somthing is not right...

The engine was bouncing all over the place... rpm's were going CRAZY! At red lights she felt as if she wanted to stall...

I take her into service and come back to recieve the news...

"Your engine is needs to be replaced... and some other parts"

I was like... "what the heck?" ANYWAYS, so I ask what happened and he showed me the converter.. it was busted... He said that one of the pistons miss-fired and caused a back flow which "hurt the engine."

I havn't gotten a straight word from nissan about what caused it, but my TITAN is being fitted with a new engine...

I am filing for LEMON LAW. After only 3,600 miles (3 months of ownership) and I need a new engine? SO...

I talked to nissan and reps (been doing for 3 weeks now) and basically they say... "need to send the Lemon Law application in [to Florida capital]"

Well, I am... I either a) want a new Titan or b) money for an F-150...

Sorry to rant guys, but I will have pics of my Truck ripped apart w/ old and new engine pics... quality engineering my @ss!

lol... anyways, sorry for being so ranty, but I am just wanting my truck... wait... a different truck or somthing... I am pissed...

ANYWAYS, hope to have pics soon...

Later guys!

-Josh

you won't get the lemon law. I believe you have to take it in for a given problem like 3 times and they can't fix it. If the problem is your engine and they replace it, then they upheld their end of the bargain.

Was it really the engine? Or the torque converter? The way you describe it it sounds more like the torque converter not getting out of lock-up. RPMS will go crazy because the ECU gets conflicting info from the tach and IAC. The engine will also do an irish jig when the rpms dip too low. Had it happen on my volvo -- not fun.

Potroast is right. The lemon Law wouldn't work quite yet for you. It has to be problematic vehicle. After they replace the engine and **** still craps out on you, then you could probably do it.

I know it must be a pain in the A$$ to not have your truck, but I'm sure when you get it back it will be much better than new.
As far as getting your money back so you can buy an F 150, ya better check the ford truck forums first I'm sure you'll find that somone has had to have their engine replaced also.
Good luck,

I brought my brand new 2000 F150 home and the next morning I noticed a small puddle of oil on the garage floor. Of course, I was used to that, having owned several Fords in the past, but it was less than 24 hours old! So I had the dealer look at it. Long story short...stipped head bolt (or so I was told) and they had to replace the engine. They kept the truck 3-1/2 weeks and gave me a Focus for a loaner. (That's a whole different story. LOL) After it got a new engine, the truck ran fine until I sold it and bought my Titan.

I know it's a pain in the *ss right now, but don't poo-poo a new engine. Once it's replaced, you'll still have your Titan and everything should be fine. It's time to take some inventory...do you REALLY want that Ford? Maybe you'll feel different once you get back your Titan.

That makes absolutely no sense what so ever, espcially given that he was showing you a broken torque converter. Did they even take your engine apart?

Maybe while they got the engine out, you can give them some JBA headers to install

It was actually the Catalytic converter... sorry to leave Catalytic out... anyways, reason I say f-150 is because my family has had luck with the trucks... my friend has a titan as well and his has quite a few problems... just wondering about the trucks right now... and I DO NOT want a rebuilt vehicle after only 3,600 miles, it is bull crap...

anyways... excuse me for being angry, I just hate making payments on something thats in the garage 1/3 of its life thus far..

I have found that if the pistons are mis-firing, it can usually be traced to bad muffler bearings.

Seriously, If that happened to me, I would be getting the real story from the dealer and not some bs about the cat converter. It is a truck and trucks have problems every now and then. The sign of a good manufacturer/dealer is not how many problems they have but how they correct those problems. If they are going to replace the engine without giving you any crap, why do you have a problem with that.

Sorry to hear about that Josh. I would feel the same way as you even if they were to replace the engine. To pay what you did for a new truck and a problem like this occurs would send me up the roof. I wonder how long this is going to take! Keep us posted. In the meantime see what your rights are regarding this matter. Also insist that they give you a good loaner. - Take Care!!!

yes yes. Check your blinker fluid level, too. And make sure you use a good quality synthetic blinker fluid when you re-fill!

I feel for you Josh. I'm going into my 3rd month of Titan ownership and I worry like heck that someone is going to wreck me again like they did with my last new SUV I owned (didn't even have the license plates yet and it was in the body shop for 4 weeks). That's not an experience I would wish on anyone. I felt robbed knowing I had a brand new vehicle with $4,500 of body and chasis repairs done on it. The vehicle did last a long time after that with no major mechanical problems but I think I was lucky in that sense. I hope things work out for you. Keep us posted on how Nissan and the dealership handle the situation.
