1st Oil Change

Just did my 1st oil change on my Titan at 2800 miles. I used Mobil 1 5W30 and to my surprise my truck used 7 1/2 Quarts. Whats up with that? The owners manual says 6 1/2. I put 6 1/2 in and was low -then added 1/2 quart and was still low and then added another 1/2 quart and was right on the money. Anyone else have to put 7 1/2 quarts in the baddest *** engine on the planet?

I changed mine at 2500 to Mobil 1 5W30 and it took 7 quarts to fill (after starting and letting the very small oil filter fill). It appears at least both of our trucks require more than the manual says its suppose to take. Strange.....

Yup mine takes 7.5 as well. Takes it right to the top of the stick. Not sure why the manual says 6.5 w/oil filter change. 6.5 barely makes the first measurement. It may be that as long as the level is between the marks it is considered a safe level. When I first purchased my Titan the first thing I did was check the levels of all fluids and I did notice the oil level although was between the marks was on the lower side which I personally don't like. I keep it on the higher end.

When the Tundra first came out we were having the exact same problem. Turns out they had put the incorrect dipstick in. Toyota promptly sent everyone out a new dipstick.

Did mine at 1200 miles. It took 7 quarts. Used Castrol 5W 30, and unfortunately a Fram, (couldn't find anything else without going another 100 miles round trip).
Have been looking at the AMSOIL website, [BTW I'm not associated with Amsoil in any way], and they suggest using mineral based for 500 miles for break-in: "petroleum oil has a very low film strength which is ideal for breaking in a new engine. That is why we recommend you run the factory installed petroleum oil for about the first 500 miles".
Since I'm mostly doing engine easy, 45 mile trips, I want to wait until 3,500, and I still have a free dealer oil and filter change I'll do at 2400.

I much prefer a dark dipstick with cross-hatching so you can see the level at a glance.

BTW, Have any of you Mobil 1 guys looked at the Amsoil comparisons to Mobil 1? Their website is interesting. Any opinions?

I checked mine at 8390 and it used about eight quarts. I used Castrol 10W-40 and a K&N Oil Filter, trucks running great!

I just changed mine today....and 6.5 put it in the middle of the dipstick..........One thing I'd like to do is find the idiot at Nissan that installed that oil filter.......had to resort to the screwdriver method of removal after the filter wrench started bending the end of the filter and would budge it....

I have a good wrench....it actually grabs the end of the filter and as you apply more force it tightens it's grip(I was putting so much force on the filter it started crushing)......I almost didn't get it off with the screwdriver...
