Baker-Jackson in Houston ran an add on saturday listing Titan XE CC's at $21085. Today - 2 days later, they're now advertising them for $20885!
I went along on saturday and selected a canteen and signed up for $20785 but now I'm thinking I should wait to the end of the month and watch the price go down some more...
What are other people seeing? Is this a good deal?
At this point I wouldn't get into an '04 for anything more than $1000 - 2000 under INVOICE. Dealers say they need to get rid of "excess inventory" before the 05s, and that is true. HOWEVER, now that the '05's are here, the '04s will have ALREADY experience 1 whole year of depreciation even if you buy it new. There is a big difference in price between a 0 mile '04 and a 0mile '05.

Top 10 Ways You Know You're a Hopeless Procrastinator:
Definately wait until the end of the month. Salesmen are on a scale the more units over the curb the greater the commission check. The sales manager is also effected. HE might need one more sale to change his whole pay check and you could be the one. Good luck
You think thats cheap! I live in ga and its very common to look in the paper ad see titan xe,s for 16,995!!! No joke. These particular trucks sticker for around 23 but Sutherlin nissan will advertise 2 of them in the paper you just have to bring the paper with you to get that price and the stock numbers have to match. But they will try to hit you hard with dealer fees and paint protection and all sorts of crap to get there money back. Its exactly what they did to me when i bought my 04 frontier, they got me in the door and then tried to add all kinds of extra charges!!!

Wow! I just emailed them to see if this is for real or not. If it is, I can bail from my ordered XE/CC, fly down there and get one. Even if I couldn't get my deposit back, I'd still be ahead. Thanks for the heads up, Fore!

Received email back from Baker-Jackson Nissan. Yes, they will sell a base unit XE/CC for $20885, on the condition it is done before Aug. 31. That leaves me in a tough spot. I lose my $1000 deposit if I bail from my deal with my local dealer for an XE/CC w/preferred package and floor mats before Sept 1. (The options are worth $730 at invoice.) I think I'll try this offer against my dealer as leverage. Even if they eat my $1k, I'll still be ahead as we agreed to $24,569 back on June 1. My, how time changes everything!

You shouldn't give the dealer any money on deposit, period. Never never never...

Couple points...around here, dealers don't actually even own the new cars on the lot they have for sale. So it's pointless for them to sell them at a loss. They have to make a profit.
As for the big difference between depreciation on an '04 versus an '05...some of that is obviously factored into the price and incentives already, but the other point is that a late model '04 has lower mileage than an early model '04, and mileage also accounts for depreciation.
I've found after doing these deals for years and years, there are no hard and fast rules. It's futile to try understand any exceptional dealer motivations because there aren't any except one...to make a profit. It really matters little 3-4 years down the road when it's time to trade again, whether you bought a late '04 or an early '05. You got a better deal on a low mileage '04, or paid more for a higher mileage '05.
The rule of thumb is this: If you finance, always finance for 36 months. Your vehicle will have warranty coverage for the full period usually, and at the end, you'll have enough equity in the trade to step into another new vehicle or slightly better, and keep the same payment amount into the future. If you love the vehicle so much you want to keep it beyond 3 yrs, you can do that too if you sock away the monthly payment into savings what you were paying when you owed on it. The combination of residual equity, plus your cash saved will always be enough to get into a new comparable vehicle for the same payment you had.

You know the old joke...
"We lose $250 on every vehicle we sell..., but we make it up on volume!"

My wife was chewing on me to wait for the price to go down some more - "wait till the end of the month". So I called the sales manager and explained, asked if he could help me out with a bed liner to counter my wifes argument. I got a $375 spray in liner for $175 - the additional $200 discount my wife was carping on about.
Go in and get your money back. They can't keep it. I've done it before, don't worry.
I picked up me XE/CC today from baker-jackson - it's great. I dealt with Kristy Lucas, sales, and Ray Radzinsky the sales manager. They were straight forward and easy to deal with - especially Ray.
Mention the guy that bought the canteen green with spray in bed liner and maybe they'll help me out when I go back for some extra's
Cheers - Mike S (aka fore!..)

YES!!! Brian get your $$ back!!
They CANT keep it. Got my deposit back when I found what I had ordered at a different lot..
I bought it, drove over, and got my check back no problem. They have NO recourse. (this was a past vehicle, not the Titan).
Its more like "good faith" money, not at all a non-refundable deposit. They will tell you that, but when you put the muscle down, they buckle very quickly.
Hey Mike-Fore, did they have any Canteens left? Wife and I both really want that color. I have a second email back to Baker Nissan but haven't received a reply. Still, I plan to use their first reply....with the price that's soo nice, as leverage against my stealership. I plan to go in there, lay it on the table and say "Meet this, or write a check." Now that I understand (I think) that this truck is not being purchased by the stealership, but consigned, they're not going to lose their a$$ if I bail. They're a pretty decent operation from what I can see thus far, but haven't been forthcoming with updates on order status. We had to hound them to get anything out of them.
I really don't want to have to go all the way down to Houston, or anywhere for that matter that would add additional cost to this. Even with a fast airplane in my hangar, I don't have anyone available to fly it back home!

PM sent. And for general viewing, I cancelled my ordered truck from local stealership. After three months waiting, I've had it. Sales mangler would not budge on price agreed way back then, even though my truck is past expected delivery date, and they've had $1000 of my cash to play with since May 30! Supposedly, my deposit (stupid thing to do....as I now know) will be "in the mail" on Monday. So, an email barrage has been sent out to neighboring states. Best one with the truck I want ON THE LOT is in Dallas at Lawrence Marshall Nissan...out the door for $22,991.60 on a canteen XE/CC w/bedliner, splash guards, mats and pref package. Sales tax would be paid in my home state though, so factor in another 6% for the real deal. The base model Canteens are getting rare these days so not many other dealerships had anything to offer. Most replied with "sure, we have lots of Titans. Come see them. Bye." No thanks.
And the drama continues...
