Yes that sucks...
and yes it is quite easy to defeat most alarm systems...
never heard of the "demagnetized" method... as most alarms in autos now days use power flow, and not magnets, as in... most alarms to detect when an intrusion happen, have a shock sensor, basicaly listents for a sound/preasure wave of a certian Db level.
For doors, on the other hand... they usually use a battery load sensor, basicaly senses a form of draw from the battery, and sets off the alarm... if say the light in the cab comes on...
which I am willing to bet, if it is a factory system, is the way it is set up... les expensive to sense battery load that it is to listen for voltage flowing through a door switch.
My guess would be, and I am probably wrong...
that your gf didnt have the dome light set to turn on when the door would open, thus causing no flow of electricity, or drain, from the battery. which would cause the alarm not to go off...
if it is factory equiped with a shock sensor... a mack truck would have to hit your truck to set it off, to avoid complaints from customers like, a trash truck drove bye and set off my alarm!!!
