Modification Regrets

Would anyone like to share any modifications they regret?

Searched, didnt find a thread on it. Thought it was too general to be in one of the other forums...

Farily new Titan owner here, no mods yet, was wondering what to stay away from...

Might just state the mod and the problems, or include a story, whatever...

Might be usefull to those of us looking at certain products but not sure of the outcome...

Might also include if you can un-mod the mod with or without much trouble...

Include Nissan OEM parts too, if applicable...

Thanks,

Marcus

I have not had the opportunity to pimp out the Titan yet.But the best thing I have ever done to a vehicle (ChevyTahoe) was to put dual 14" electric fans and 165degree thermostat. Aside from exhaust this was the best and highly recommended. The same truck I've installed headers,CAI,throttle body spacer(garbage),PowerProgrammer,Mass flow air sensor blablabla...another good thing rear end swap (this 1 is a little pricey) I judge on "seat of pants"feel. just my 2 cents...out

CAI,Cold Air Induction= Too loud little to no power gain.
Dual Electric fans=Quieter(no fan clutch)cooler running engine makes more power.
Throttle Body Spacer= Too loud whistling sound little to no power gain.
PowerProgrammer= This one is OK...Runs rich poor gas mileage sooty like a diesel.
MassFlow Air sensor= No notice in preformance.
Headers=Too loud.Little to no power gain.
Rear End swap=Amplifies anything u do to the motor, pulls better, helps with big rims and tires.
Slotted rotors=jury still out, sure they may cool down better but not as much surface friction so about the same braking feel.
Granted these are not mods done to the Titan and the truck described has big aftermarket rims and tires....with the stock tires it does impress.
With all these mods it still can not hold a candle to the Titan..but it is a 4x4.
hope some of this helps
as I hope to mod up the Titan soon my past exp. shows less is sometimes more

I slapped an undersized Dynomax muffler on there just to try it out. Didn't work out so I went with the Banks. I don't like throwing money away but I am not afraid to lose a little to try things. Hard to say if I regret it or not.

I would have not installed the Banks exhaust, it was too loud for my taste and didn't notice any performance gain.

I am also interested why you regret this? I think your truck looks amazing, and that's seems like a cost-effective way to get a little lift.

I'm guessing that you have not read the posts on the daystar kit.......It's has caused nothing but problems for those who have the Off Road/"Rancho" shocks. Nice fix but more cost down the road. The dealer wont cover any of the repair costs either. Do a search, you'll find the threads. If you look for a leveling lift go with the new one from Prerunner.

I regret the need to wait another year for product mods prices to go down.

Wow! That is not a bad 1/4 mile time for a basically stock 5,000lb truck! I'm impressed. I read somewhere that the Titan runs the 1/4 mile only 1/10th of a second slower than Chevrolet's new SS All-Wheel drive sport truck. That is sad . . . For Chevrolet.

I had the dealership install a Flowmaster 40 Series and it was simply too loud and intrusive for my (and my wife's) taste. Way too loud for pleasant motoring. Once I had the 40 Series changed to a 70 Series, I was pleased. Nice "muscle car" sound at start-up, and great sound during hard acceleration, with very little cabin drone or roar at 65 mph.

For exhaust mods, if you go with a Flowmaster, go with the 70 Series - looks great, sounds great, and I have noticed a bit more quickness around 1500 rpm and a lot at 4000 rpm (don't do the 4000 too often, as mpg drops significantly).

I know that there are some other Titan owners that participate in this forum that are pleased with their 40 Series, but my 42 year old ears just don't like the drone and harsh cabin noise that the 40 produced. I enjoy my CD's and it is nice not to have to shout to carry on a normal conversation, while still having a nice throaty exhaust system.
