ColoTitan, 2wd or 4wd, KC or CC, etc. ? Weight is a big factor.
[edit] - I just looked at your profile and for "car" it states:
"SE 4X4 Offroad" so the only real weight difference might be KC vs CC, and I doubt if that is very much". So your "got 17.5 with 50% Highway and 50% City", is great, and something to look forward to! [What am I saying? 17.5 is great?, well I guess for a Titan].

Hi smoothTitan, were you asking about my 14.3 MPG? From what I've read on TT this is pretty common for ~2K miles 4X4, w/Off-road etc. I describe my conditions in a previous post on this thread, #11.
[edit] Beaker did mention LA and lots of traffic so I think you are right about the stop and go being the culprit. -Steve

Swarren1,thanks.I figured you had to take a good look to find the side PK.I wanted an SE because I wanted the power seat. When I discovered I would have to get Offroad,Big Tow,UB,PP just to get the Side PK,I gave up and lowered my aim to a XE KC.I really miss the power mirrors, power seat, and power locks my Tundra had.Don't miss the power windows, but reaching over than seat to open the passengers door is a real pain.I'm going to install power mirrors, and I'm casually hunting for a power seat(not sure how I will stuff the airbag in it if it doesn't have it). They dropped about $1800 off MSRP in April. They will drop a lot off a dead base XE(MAYBE $5000) to bring you into the dealership, but with any options they get tougher since the profit margin is thinner on the cheapo models. They know that anyone who is hunting for side airbags, really wants it,so they can hang tougher.!Considering the Airbags, you got a very good deal. Thanks,Charlie
Hey Squid, (this is a little strange addressing someone as Squid, but wtf). Anyway, since you are doing great on the MPG, I'm curious on how you're doing so good? Are you one of those people that never goes over 55? Do you never use your A/C? If you are not using your A/C, do you keep your windows up? What oil are you using? Have you checked your differential fluid yet? Replaced fluid?

These mileage posts are all p-d awesome! A friend got a hemi-Dodge, and 10.5 mpg in town. Ha! Ha! (say it like Nelson on the Simpsons)
As I posted on the "as mileage vs. octane (data)" thread Gas Mileage versus Octane (data), I just finished a 1000 mile road trip to the Big Bend of Texas. I hauled 800 lbs of concrete and added weight of gear, tools, and lumber. My camp spot was 8 miles off the pavement, and I definitely needed my 4X4 to crawl some arroyos and hills.
I used 87 octane fuel only. My mileage was 18.9 mpg for the average of three tanks.
Prior to the trip my in town mileage had been about 15 mpg.
Both values are about the same as the mileage in my previous vehicle, a 2002 Escape 4X4 w/ V6.
So I would say around the 10-15K range. Why? I swear it just takes that long for all the oil to really get into the metal. We all know that metal absorbs oil, just how long does that take? That is the only thing I have come up with...
I beg to differ. My 02 Xterra got 13 MPG period. Thats why I traded it in this week. It never got any better, if anything it got worse.

Well my xterra went from 13 mixed to 15 mixed. Then again I also put on k&n air intake and a gibson catback exhaust and ran mobil 1 synthetics everywhere. However, towing the popup out to Moab, UT from Arkansas I didn't get anything better than 10mpg. On the trails, the xterra was outstanding for the offroad, but the gas mileage was horrible. I just can't understand how I get better with the Armada then the xterra.
Go figure....

Well the mileage I listed is what I call consistant at that mileage. It started to get better before that but that is when the increases stopped - at least for me. I live out in the country so it takes 28 miles to get to work - sometimes 48 when I have to go into the city. I have now added a muffler to the Armada, but before that we got 15.3 to 15.8 on all highway with 12.9 to 14.9 mixed - the best was 16.5 when it was all flat highway. The worst was 10.3 towing my boat through the Ozarks average around 65mph. Now with the muffler change, I am not sure yet because I just had it done and not gone through several tanks to get an average.
One thing to remember is that my Armada is heavier than the Titan. So take that into consideration.
Hi Kmonto,
Where's Greenbriar?
I just got back from Arkansas, where my best mileage ever was a trip from Springdale to Little Rock, 19.8 mpg. AC off, windows down all the way. Is that all downhill??

Yes I changed the motor and dif oils at 1K with dino oil.(per the forum and both diffs were low.)
I drive 70 on the highway and yes i use the a/c non stop.I drive the same 100 mile route every day so things are pretty consistent.Last week I got the blinking 4lo light and the dealer changed the sensor and my mpg jumped from 17.8 to the 18.4
Now I have a question for everyone getting terrible mpg. When you are sitting at a stop light and it turns green by the time you get half way to the next light are you passing people or being passed? I'm always being passed. I'll start out first at the light and last by the time i get to the next one.(learned this behavior from driving a 4banger stick shift frontier.)I always catch up, i'm just never first.
Maybe this is the mpg secret?
Hey Squid,
Thanks for the info. I am fairly light footed especially on the approach to stops and sharp curves, but could probably improve a little on the acceleration. I do most of my passing at speed, and not very often at that.

My frontier was a 2002 and when I traded it in on the 11th of Aug I had 104,000 miles on it. Today is the 12th of Sept and when I parked the Titan this morning I now have 4206 miles on it so Gas Mileage is not just important, It's my #1 prioroty. And sloooooooow acceleration is my secret.
Besides I have a 82 collectors edition corvette and a 2000 H.D. road king classic so I have no problem getting my share of "ZOOM ZOOM".
Tim
By the way Squid goes way back to my Navy days.

Hi Squid, besides the mileage, I'm also worried about the tire replacement cost. One of the off-roads is about 3-4x the cost of one tire for my Camry, and I was getting about half of stated treadware. BTW, your toys sound zoom'n. Must feel strange being so close to the ground in your Corvette after being in the Titan.

700 miles on my SE 4x2 Crew and first tank i checked was 15.1 mixed. Second 15.6 mixed. No mods yet. I am quite happy with this as it should get better with mods and bed cover....I goose it every once in a while but not all day....
