Question for other XE owners

Has anybody found any tricks for dealing with the crappy visors? They flap in the wind so badly that I can't roll down the window on the interstate.

Also, has anybody found a handy way to mount a garage door opener?

Thanks guys.

I put velcro hook on the garage opener and placed it directly on the headliner near the center console. The visor covers it, but the button is easy to access. The opener is just thick enough to reduce the visor vibration from driving with the window open (and the reggae blaring).

Yeah, my opener keeps the visor off the head liner just enough to stop the vibrating...
BUT when I open the window and slide the visor over, it would slide right off and go out the window so then it goes in the console.

I think I will swap with SE or LE visors and do without the working lights. HAVING MIRROR on driver's side is nice for popping zits or removing those pesky mouth corner food debris after lunch.

You could just get one of those little keychain garage door openers... around $20 works for my "lift master," I'm sure you can program it to any one though, mine says "lift master model 970" on the back

I changed the Mirror, for the one that has the remote control in it, how is it called, mmmm metrolink?.... no.. electrolink... no that's not it... homelink yes... the homelink mirror, it is very easy to change mirrors it just takes a little time, and best of all, mostly any homelink mirror will fit our truck, I used one that came off a Maxima, got it on ebay for not too much, or you can just go with a new one from the dealer stealer, but that is not fun... look look and you will find.... aahh the plesure of never changing batteries and the strong signal all the time, oh yea, anyway, the homelink is the way to go, I love mine.
Good luck, if you need details let me know.

Some XE's don't have an over head console, that comes with the preferred package. I preferred to have a one-piece rear window, the ability to get your back windows tinted as you want them, an upgradable stereo face plate (you can take out the radio and swap in a one-din with pocket or 2-din stereo without having to buy the plastic surround dash piece for over $100 from the dealer) and some other things that get taken away if you get the XE preferred.

What's funny is I'm not that tall, 6'2", but I do drive with the seat very straight up, almost annoyingly so to other people. When test driving, I went off a curb and hit my head on the over head console so I chose not to get it for that reason also. My truck is in the dirt alot and bouncing my head off the hard plastic wasn't something I wanted to be doing on a regular basis.

Cali-Titan, about your mirror.. Did you find one with the built-in compass and thermometer??? Also if so, where did you have to wire the temperature probe to? That is what I'm looking for, the "homelink," and a compass/thermometer. If so, give me some info if any you have on getting what you found. Thanks!

Pciley, all I wanted was a remote control function, buying a remote for my place was $40 which is $35 too many, anyway to your questions, I got my mirror from Ebay, I paid $115 I came with a Auto Dimming, and the 3 homelink controls... that's it, for the temperature I got a little piece from walmart that tells me the temperature inside and outside of the car, I glued it to the dash..well just above the cup-holder, it works fine I get to use it often, since I don't run the AC as often, but that is another story, anyway, the compass that would be a nice feature but I did not find a mirror with it, and realy all I wanted was the dammed garage opener, so I passed on the compass...

Wiring?.... I chicken out and I took it to a car stereo shop to do it since the XE was not prewired for a powered mirror, and the shop did not use the power available in the upper console affraid that it will be not enough juice... ??? what ever... I just wanted it hook-up and 3 months later I know I did the right thing, the installer run a new wire from the fuse box there for I would never worry about circuits catching on fire or computers gone mad because there is a voltage difference than what factory designed, if you know what I mean... don't borrow existing wires, run a new one and be safe... anyway I hope this helps.
Later

wow.. compass is nice when you are trying to get back to camp in 1000 sq. miles of dunes, slightly drunk, dark, girlfriend saying "I'm tired and thirsty, have to pee", etc.

Guess I'll stick to my hand held GPS for now.
