That's the most idiotic assessment by a dealer yet, I vote to give him today's "Dumbass of the Day" award!
Now, I do have mice getting under my hood, and I wish to hell they'd try to use my belt as a treadmill so that I could be rid of the problem. On a side note, I took my wife's CRV to the delaer yesterday due to an engine malfunction idiot light. I mentioned that mice sometimes get under her hood and actually into her car and the service guy quickly blurts out that it wouldn't be covered by the warranty if the problem was "critter related".

Rodents do cause A lot of damage (they love to eat wires), and CRV's are thier favorite for some reason (not kidding). You wont be laughing when he tells you it needs A $600 engine harness.
geeze, I hope that you don't take this the wrong way but..............is this your first vehicle?
It is really unfortunate that your truck is messed up, but like the old saying goes "$hit happens",.
This is probably the only new vehicle that I have ever owned that didn't have at least one serious problem within the first year. I doubt that your truck has suffered any long term harm, unless you drove it for several miles after you discovered the coolant leak. You didn't do that did ya?
I know this is probably going to pi$$ you off a little bit, but I can't help but think you are blowing this out of proportion a little bit.
Just sit back, have a little faith in the service department, and the mechanics, [99% of them are honest hard working people. They have nothing to gain by lying to you about your truck] and I'm sure everything will be alright.
Good luck,
By the way, I don't really buy the mouse thing, I would suspect that the pulley jumped off or some road debris was caught in the belt causing it to come off of the pulley.

I have a question about this: Where is the sensor that measures the coolant temperature. If it measures the actual coolant temp then I would think that the temp gauge would NOT warn you of an overheat since the fluid leaked out (hence there is no hot fluid to measure the temp of). If, on th other hand, the sensor measures the temperature of the block or head then you would be warned by the temp gauge.
JD
The sensor[sending unit] is located in the cylinder head, it measures whatever is the hottest, i.e. coolant or the cylinder head itself, either way it is sent to the temp. gauge in the dash.

I don't have any problems with mice, but my ex's cat went around the pulleys of the neighbors old Ford a few years back...Fan hit it on the head...Stupid cat survived, but it was never the same.
I don't think that a mouse made the belt jump off, but I am LMAO just thinking
about the little buggers using it as a treadmill >Thanks Homer<
Also, the only proven way that a belt will jump off of the pulley is to rev the engine beyond 8000 rpm.... j/k
I had a brand new (less than 50 miles) serpentine belt disintegrate on my Chevy once. It was a brand name (had a little winged foot on it)...
It tore the hood blanket apart, and made a hell of a racket. I always save my old belt as a spare...Had it repaired in 5 minutes, and went on my way.

Nice, I guess its covered either way then. Thanks for the reply bowhunter.
Service advisor called... says that the the PULLEY and BELT have been installed... but the hose has not arrived yet... Says it should be in done by tomorrow...
Sounds like you are getting EXCELLENT and QUICK service by your dealer. I'm SURE that the OTHER Titans WERE just IN for some ROUTINE maintenance, like GETTING the oil CHANGED or MAYBE doing A 7500 mile service OR someTHING like THAT. :jester
btw, that thread back in... April or May about the Titan blowing an engine while pulling a Dodge Ram out was just a troll. That was not true. Was there another instance (or first instance on this site, for that matter) of a blown engine that was related to internals?
Or they could have been in for the Radio, or maybe a rotor& front pad job!!!!!!! JUST face it, Its made by MAN, sometimes things happen (I know, They ALWAYS happen to you) YOU THINK it will NEVER be the same,Or as good as new, (hopefully it will be better) You NEED to be nice to your Dealer,(maybe suck-up a little) You'll get MUCH BETTER results!!!!!!! Anyway, Step back, take a deep breath, have a little faith,And things Will get better!!!!
I called today... He said the rubber hose is still not in yet... So he got me a rental van. I still had to pay for insurance on the rental from enterprise...
If this problem were to happen on the freeway on on a long distanced trip, the belt would cut into the coolant hose and eventually dry the engine of coolant and kill the engine. Here are some pics of what has happened.
Engine Overheat Protection
The VK56DE engine in both the Pathfinder Armada and Titan have an overheat protection designed into the Engine Control Module (ECM) logic. Under severe conditions such as low coolant or heavy towing, the following could occur:
• As the temperature increases above 93° C (200° F), the Transmission Control Module (TCM) upshifts the automatic transmission from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. This limits engine rpm and
throttle response.
• If the engine temperature continues increasing, the ECM limits throttle response to no more than approximately 3,700 rpm.
• The electric cooling fan in front of the A/C condenser turns ON.
• The ECM shuts OFF the A/C compressor.
• If engine temperature continues increasing, the engine temperature/oil temperature warning light turns ON, indicating the engine temperature is excessive.
• In a severe condition where the engine temperature increases to an excessively high amount, the ECM could shut the engine OFF until the temperature has cooled down. This only occurs when the engine temperature becomes extremely high and engine damage could result.
Note: The ECM electronically limits throttle opening if the engine coolant temperature sensor detects engine overheating or low coolant level. Once the coolant reaches the correct temperature, the engine returns to normal operation. Should the coolant temperature continue rising, the ECM shuts off the fuel until the engine cools to a safe level.
Updates on the truck? Have them find a hose manufacturer and cut one that can withstand the temps and pressures and go with that...you should not have to wait while one ships in...then maybe when it DOES show up, they can change it back out for ya?
