Today I decided to go to get some Mcdonalds to eat in my new titan that I purchased about 4 months ago. I started her up and everything was fine, but on the way I heard a funny noise from the engine. I thought that i was just imagining things until I started to smell something funny. I parked the car about 2 blocks from my house and looked under the hood and found that the belt had come off of the belt wheel and was cutting into the coolant hose. I immediately took the car home driving it extremely slowly so that it wouldn't leak more engine coolant. I called STEVENS CREEK NISSAN (San Jose) immediately to talk with the service advisor and she told me to have the truck towed in on MONDAY so they can check out the problem. All I can do now is just watch my titan sitting there bleeding coolant. =( ... I decided to document everything that was going to happen with service/dealership service/resolution of what would be done to fix my problem. I currently have
7475 miles on the truck since purchase. I've noticed that somebody here on the forum had a blown engine. I can imagine why now. If this problem were to happen on the freeway on on a long distanced trip, the belt would cut into the coolant hose and eventually dry the engine of coolant and kill the engine. as far as frying the engine, I'm sure the temp gauge would warn of an overheat situation in time to prevent that.
then again I guess there are people who would keep on driving anyway

I do not believe that if that happned on the highway that you would blow the motor, because like someone else mentioned the temp guage would warn you. As long as you pay attention, which it seems like you do (you heard the noise), you would be fine. Just my $.02, because it happened on my Eclipse and nothing serious came from it, very similiar sitauation to your. Good luck w/ the dealership

I have a question about this: Where is the sensor that measures the coolant temperature. If it measures the actual coolant temp then I would think that the temp gauge would NOT warn you of an overheat since the fluid leaked out (hence there is no hot fluid to measure the temp of). If, on th other hand, the sensor measures the temperature of the block or head then you would be warned by the temp gauge.

The Titan ECM has programming to limit power, or even completely shut off the engine if overheating occurs.

Thanks, but that still leaves me asking where is the temperature measured? If its the actual coolant temp then the ECM would have no clue that the engine is overheating if the coolant leaked out.
OK I finally got the titan towed to STEVENS CREEK NISSAN of SAN JOSE here are some pics.
I got to the dealership before the tow truck did using my grandpa's van and took a picture of the dealership. I went to the service area and found that there were 2 TITANS in the back... hmmm I wonder Why? one was a white Crew Cab w/ dvd and evrything and the other one was a red crew cab.
After about a 10 min wait, my TITAN FINALLY ARRIVES...
Now here is MY NISSAN TITAN next to the other 2 TITANS that' are in for god knows what.
Here is the workorder that I've received from STEVENS CREEK NISSAN.
You know what the Funny thing is... The Service advisor looked under my hood and said that possibly a mouse was in the engine compartment and ran into your belts and knocked it out of alignment!? LOL what kind of bull**** was that. WOW. I couldn't believe he said that. But after talking to him for a while he said that he saw another NISSAN TITAN that had the actualy adjustment pully fall out of the engine. He said that usually newer cars had problems like this and that he'll try to fix the problem as sooon as possible. He gave me a call later on today and said that he has overnighted the parts and ordered a new BELT/ADJUSTOR PULLY/HOSE and will get it back me by tomorrow or ASAP. I hope this problem gets fixed and that there is nothing wrong with my engine. All I know is that I'm not going to ever buy a truck like this again. Good luck to everybody else. Oh yeah I was speaking w/ one of the workers there and he said that Nissan will soon be doing a recall on the calipers for the TITAN. He said that the rotors warped too easily. So I'll probably have that WARRANTIED soon also. I will keep you guys posted as to what's happening...
I think a monkey flew out of my *** then crawled up under your hood. Then a flea jumped off the monkey and got stuck on your pulley and knocked the belt off......stranger things have happened!
