I have heard so many different things about the Pro Comp Xterrain tires, I can't make a decision! I am trying to find a tire that is aggressive looking, but not too loud on the street. I am not expecting any aggressive tire to be QUIET, but I don't want something that is going to roar at freeway speeds. I know most of the guys on here that have the CST lift went with BFG A/T - but I just don't like that tire. I know there is at least one guy on the board that has the Xterrains - so I am just getting this question out there to see what everybody thinks. The other tire I am looking at is the Toyo Open Country MT - but at $315 each, they are a little pricey.

I know, but they don't come in the size I really want. They come close, but I really want a true 35" tire, and the Nitto 325/65 R18 is 34.88". I know, it seems so close, but I am just picky I guess. I really like the Xterrains, they look GREAT - but I am a little worried about them being too loud. I am totally anal when it comes to rotating tires and keep air pressures perfect - so that won't be a problem.

i have read very good feedback on all pro comp tires, test reports...i think everyone gets bfg because of the name, i chose bfg from previous experience, but i wanted pro comps for my setup but they didnt have the size i wanted.
I had a set of Pro Comps Xterrains on a 89 Ford Bronco, they were great tires. Very low road noise. I traded the Bronco for the Titan and I plan on getting another set of Xterrains when then the factory tires wear out.

It's not just the size difference, I know it's MINIMAL as best I should have phrased that different. Anyway, the real story is that I really like the look of the Xterrains MUCH better than the Terra Grappler, so maybe I am just trying to find another reason, eh? Thanks, cereakiller2 - that is the kind of help I am looking for, real world experience. My issue is that I have talked to other people who have had them and they hated them and said that they had TONS of road noise after a few thousand miles. The other tire I am looking at, the Toyo Open Country MT, is supposed to be a great tire on the road, and it looks REALLY good too. But it is expensive. I know Kenrauch has the Xterrains, but he seems to be MIA...

but hey, you dont wont someone to catch you in a lie when you tell them you have 35" tires and they bust out a measuring tape only read 34.88"...
Are you serious??? Man you Texas boys are weird . . . Remember also that if you mount the tire on a narrower rim it will increase the height of the tire by approximately .2" for ever 1/2 narrower than the measured rim width found in the specs. So if they measured 24.88" on a 9.5" wide rim and you mount it on a 9" wide rim you actually have a 25.08" tall tire. That should keep you safe when swapping lies with the boys, just in case things get crazy and the tape measures pop out. LOL . . . Sorry, it just cracks me up.

You might also want to take into consideration that the X-terrain is a direction tread design tire, which means you can't do a normal tire rotation, only front to back. While I've never dealt with the X-terrains myself, they share a very similar design to the Mickey Thompson Baja Claws. My buddy has had the MT Bajas on his Ford and they scream at any speed over 30mph, much louder than you'd expect.

Which X-terrain were you looking at? Because their 35x12.50R17 is actually 34.85". Most tires are not the exact size that they are listed as, in fact I've never seen a true "35" inch tire.
This thread was posted in September, so if he was tire shopping, he'd a' bought them by now so we might be flogging a dead horse... but
The ProComp Xterrains have a softer compound than the BFG MTs and ATs. Not really fair to compare to the All Terrains though, so I'll stick to talkin about the MTs.
The ProComp will wear similiar to the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R (stock on Rubicon Jeeps). The BFGs are probably more popular for a number of reasons, one of which has to be that you will get more miles out of them.
As long as you are straight on camber and toe with your lift, the Xterrains won't be too bad. Especially if you buy the fifth tire for the spare and include the spare in your rotation. That will make all the tires go about 20-25% farther than if you are rotating just 4.
I did not know that the Xterrains were directional, thanks Sammy! Those are definitely off my list now.
In order to do a true rotation, you would have to go to a tire shop to have the tires unmounted and swapped side to side to keep the tires going in the right direction. That could be costly and time consuming if you do it every 5k.
The BFG MTs were quiet for us, but the Jeep is alot lighter compared to the Titan and also uses a more narrow tire. With the greater tire width and contact patch which is longer with the heavier truck, it would probably be noticably louder.
I have had a set of Pro Comp Xterrain tires on my Chevy Suburban for more than a year. They do make noise when driving, but they wear well for a tire that is that soft. ( I have only rotated them front to back ). Prior to the Pro comp's I had BF Goodrich All Terrain KO's and the Pro Comp's wear alot better.
WOW. You are the first person to say that Procomps wear better than BFGs. Most everyone I off-road with says the opposite. I have never had the "KOs" though, my sidewalls just said "BFG A/T." Are the KOs softer?
That is pretty good news for such a heavy vehicle too, if they wear well on a Suburban then they'll wear well on a lighter Titan for sure.
A guy at work with a VERY lifted F-150 has big ProComp Xterrains (has to be atleast 35", maybe 37"?) and the front ones are bald. The rear ones went so fast that he has already replaced back to BFG ATs.
He is still adament about how GREAT the traction was with the ProComps and how cool the tread design was. I agree, they look agressive as hell.
I guess one up side to the softer compound is they will have better road traction.
