Headlight aim on lifted trucks

I have tried searching the web already, but I haven't gotten the results I needed. What is the law regarding headlights on lifted trucks? I believe there is a procedure for their adjustment. Thanks!

There is a screw on top of each headlight, I believe 7mm. Tighten or loosen to raise or lower the beam. Do it parked about 10ft from a wall to see the beam move so you can make them even.

I found the best way was to go to a empty and level parking lot and adjust them. At first I did it in front of a wall but didn't get them to my liking, doing it in an open area shows you exactly how the beam will be cast on the road. Don't forget to adjust your fog lights if equipped.

That diagram is for a stock truck. You don't want level lights on a lifted truck do you? Should it not be aimed less than parallel WRT the ground? I'm referring to the CST 8" lift.

Here is that diagram

I've used these diagrams before and found that just setting them to your liking (while not blinding other drivers) works better. I would set them to your preference, eyeball-it to the best setting. Like I said earlier, you can't really tell if it is good till you drive it, so it's probably best to just do it on flat open area vs. a wall.

Yes its easiest to do it by eyeball, but one of my dad's friends used to run a state inspection place and they had a "headlight leveler checker" (for lack of a better word) That was back when they actually "inspected" the vehicles though.

Also assuming that you havent already lifted it, park 10 feet from the wal and make a mark on the wall. After you lift it, park it 10 feet from the wall and adjust the lights down to that mark.

That will not give you the proper light casting. Remember the light source is raised. If you are aiming it at the same set mark as the stock ride hight, then the beams are aiming down through that point more at a lifted height, thus reducing the distance your beams go out away from the front of the vehicle. Same thing applies for using the stock specifications with a set distance and shining on a vertical surface. Using the method I described earlier is pretty much the easiest method to set the beams, unless you want to do some math.
