Re-design, Intial reaction

Today the T needed a state inspection, so I went to my local dealer. Sitting inside the garage is the "semi" re-designed T. A black on black Pro4 with all the bells and whistles. I first noticed the tailgate. The intergrated camera is a nice addition. Its clean and sleek. The tailgate does resemble that of a Dodge 1/2 ton. The rest of the exterior is obviously the same. Interior- the steering wheel, I think would be better suited for a car, not a truck. It looks out of place. The instrument cluster has a different background illumination. It appears to be done with Led's? The nav screen/ bezel is positioned nicely, better so in person than what appears in pictures. They simplified the gadgets, adding most of them into the nav screen area. The back up camera view is almost indentical to the Armada. The camera is probably the best addition. It's something that should have been a standard option years ago, especially in an Le or Sl model. Overall the new additions are a step in the right direction for Nissan, but not to the point that would drive a diehard Titan owner to trade in his current T and say "I want that". Patiently awaiting the "New Total Makeover".

Re: Re-design, Intial reaction

What few changes are purely cosmetic and not really a redesign. Supposedly the 14 will be a totally redesign Titan. Will wait and see.

There are plenty of pictures around here and the WWW.
You just can't start a thread like this without posting pictures of the actual Titan you saw.

Re: Re-design, Intial reaction

The truck you looked at was a '13 Titan. It's not the totally revamped next generation version coming in mid '14 as a 2015 model.

Since Nissan went through all the expense to tool up a new tailgate for the old war horse, the '14 Titan will probably be the same as the '13. However, it may be a short model year production though. I'm only speculating, but you don't tool up a new tailgate for just one model year.

The '15 will hopefully be the next gen redesign. Whether it's a major styling update (like the F-150 in '09) or a totally ground up redesign (like the '09 Ram) remains to be seen. I think they can keep the same greenhouse/front windshield/basic body structure and build from that. Raise the hoodline, bigger grill/bumper and reskin the body panels to bulge out a little more on the sides is all they really need to do. That combined with a slightly detuned (on paper only) VK56VD and a QX56 sourced 7sp tranny will keep it competitive.

The only thing is that the KC models might get a B-pillar and normal opening doors due to future side impact/rollover standards. I hope not, but the trend is pointing into that direction.
