First Oil Change

Two questions:

1.) Should I do it right after the break-in period (1200 miles)

2.) Can I put in synthetic right away or just standard 5W-30 until about 5,000 miles or so??

I plan to do the first change somewhere in the 2k range, refilling with dino juice. I doubt the 1200 mile number has any real magic to it. How you drive...how hard, what fuel, towing yes/no, all has input into the engine break-in equation. I've had good luck with petro/synthetic blends in my old GMC for many years. I might make the transition via that route then to straight synthetic for the long haul. Too many choices!

I personally would wait until after the break in to run synthetic oil, until the rings seat well, you get gas and all sorts of stuff in your oil. Seems like a waste of money to run synthetic at that point.

As a side light, I had a friend that used to be a factory mechanic for Honda RC45's. He claimed that they couldn't get the engines to break in correctly with synthetic oils (they were too good). So they would break them in with dino and then switch over to synthetic for the races.

I don't know if he was being truthful or not, but he did get me into meet Miguel Duhamel, back when he was racing for the Smoking Joe's team so I feel like I have to believe him.

This is just my .02 worth, but Corvettes and many other HIGH PERFORMANCE cars come from the factory with Mobil-1. With piston ring technology and CLOSE machining Tolorances Where they are today,it would not bother me to use M-1 or the syn.oil of your choice rite from the beginning,IMHO,rings are the MOST important(and only)Parts that NEED break-in!!!!!
