Engine Maintenace Schedule?

a)What does everyone think about synthetic vs. conventional engine oil, and when you should switch (if you do). I know there are special considerations for engine break in etc. and I am steadily approaching my first oil change and I would like others opinions on the oil change schedule.

b)What are the pro's and con's of each type of oil?
