Looking at the Homestead 29BHS

It's made by starcraft. Do you guys think the Titan will have any problems pulling it. Also, does anyone have any experience with starcraft campers?

I will be getting the Prodigy brake controller and the Reese dual cam sway bars.

Thanks for everyones advice!

You may want to post your question on trailerlife.com in the towing forum. You're sure to get a variety of answers. Some folks will tell you it will pull just fine. Others will tell you you'll need to upgrade to a 3/4 ton.

I tow a Rockwood Roo 19 that weighs about 4000 lbs loaded and the Titan does just fine. I'd probably upgrade to a 3/4 ton truck if I was going to be pulling something in the 30 foot range that weighs in excess of 7000 pounds with 800 plus pounds of tongue weight.

The Titan can definitely do it! A 3/4 ton would probably do it better and last longer.

Will you be pulling this trailer often? Short distances or long? Mountains? Flat land?

I live on the Gulf Coast, so it will be flat land. The reason I am looking at 29ft is because I need to live in it temporarily. Don't want to be too cramped.

Well it is pretty simple. While the Titan may be able to tow it within the tow rating I
am not sure you will have any GVWR left on the Titan. The empty tongue weight is
900lbs and if you subtract the weight of your Titan from the GVWR you will find no
weight left for people or cargo. I will use my truck as an example. My truck weighs
5650 with me and a full tank of gas and aluminum canopy. With a GVWR of 6500 that
leaves 850lbs left so 900lbs of tongue weight will put it over the GVWR. Now if you
have 2WD you will gain some capacity back as my truck is 4WD but I think I have
made my point. I think you need at least a light 3/4 ton truck especially if you intend
to carry alot of stuff in the trailer and you do as you are going to live in it.

Using a WD hitch will shift some of that tounge weight back onto the trailer. That will help but I agree there is not much room for any extra cargo...

I pull a 32' Coachmen Chaparral, specs very similar to yours (about 7,000 lbs/850 tongue wt). Have the wt distro. hitch, and the Prodigy controller (well worth the money). Been out with it probably a dozen times around IL, MO, one trip to IN. Went to Branson MO, definitely some good-sized hills, doable but used a LOT of engine on a couple of the long climbs. Found that stability really drops off around 68-70 MPH. Whether hills or flat, get about 8 MPG towing @ 60 MPH avg. (a little over 14 MPG empty). Plan on using 4th most of the time, unless you have a tailwind. My range has been pretty steady at 50 miles per quarter tank. I use Mobil 1 in the engine, both diffs, and have a K&N panel.
Overall, the Titan seems very capable of taking care of my weekend 2-4 hour trips, but if I were really going to do a lot of serious travelling, at this wt, I would move up to a 3/4 to 1 ton diesel--to me the fuel milage, durability and capability cushion would be impossible to pass up. Fortunately for now, I get to enjoy both.

Looks like a nice trailer. I'm looking for one just like that floor plan. Let us know how well the Titan handles it on hills and such. Thanks for the heads up on the trailer. I just printed out the catalog.

Thanks everyone for your input, it is greatly appreciated.

Pyro, you might also want to look at the Aruba 28DBS. It is also made by Starcraft and has the same floorplan with a few small changes.

I tow a 32 foot Jayco that weighs about 7000 wet. Four of us plus all the crap we throw in the back of the truck and it tows like a champ. The WD bars really help, so does a good sway bar. Went from Portland Oregon all the way to Denver, then up the Eisenhauer tunnel. Slow uphill, but she made it. Your numbers look similar to mine, I think you'll be fine.
Happy towing, bruthuh!
