truck tags

I live in Northern Virginia. Is it true that if I get truck tags that my titan will never have to go through emmissions testing? Thanks.

What are "truck tags"? You mean commercial plates rather than passenger plates?

Yes, there are private truck and for hire truck tags.

Why are you worried about the emissions testing? You didn't take a broomstick to the cat did you?

Was kinda thinkin about it... just kidding. It would save me money since we have to get the tests every two years otherwise.

Any body have the answer to the truck plates???I am interested also..Not only is the emissions expensive in N.Va. but it makes your vehicles ABS system go Haywire..The ABS computer freaks out when it gets on the tread mill. The back wheels are spinning while the front is not,so when they come down from high speed testing then hit the brake it causes your ABS light to come on every time!!!! Most times you get lucky and the ABS will reset by turning the car on and off. I will see what i can find put also about truck plates in Va.........Good Question member 5511...Thanx Doug out...

Jeez, what type of testing are they doing to you guys over there? In TN, we pulled into the testing garage, put it in idle and the guy stuck a probe in the truck's (emphasize on truck for some of the perverts here ) tail pipe and about a minute later he gave you a print out and you were on your way.

I think from what I saw on the DMV webpage, you would still have to get the truck tested:

Most states use a rolling chassis dyno-like system where the drive wheels are able to spin and the non-drive wheels are chalked. The emissions are so strict in CA that they take many readings all over your RPM range. The ABS thing applies here too, usually cycling the key and driving a few miles fixes it, otherwise the smog shop should be prepared for this and should clear the ABS trouble code with an OBDII scanning tool.

I must have been thinking about diesels not having to be tested.

Here in Louisiana they don't test for squat. Your car/truck has to have all the emission equipment but it doesn't have to work. The state does not want to pay for all of the diagnostic equipment to test for emissions.

Blizz,
Where did you get tested in Tennessee? I've never seen any inspections,
unless they do something different in Memphis, or some other area I don't
know about.

Around here, the cops could care less about the condition of your vehicle,
unless a piece of it falls off in front of them.
