Looks like it's Chevy/GM's turn to step up to the plate! I just read an add in car and driver for the new GMC Sierra Denali Crew Cab with the "new" Vortec V8. I bet it's still slow though.

It's the same power/torque rating as the Silverado SS. Not sure what the displacement is. Doesn't matter. Add an exhaust and CAI to your truck and it's a moot point...just ask my neighbor :P

this is the 6.0 thats in the ss. from what i have seen it only runs 15's. there are alot of aftermarket products for it though. the next couple years they are going to the ls2.

WOW. the 6.0 is ALOT more $$$ than the standard engine on GM trucks, the SS as we know is alot more $$ than a base Titan with 5.6L. You do get all wheel drive in the SS which is nice for off-the-line launching. When I beat an SS at the track (good driver) it wasn't by much, he was stock and I had Banks and Volant (before I had put the resonators, trac bars, octane boost, etc). I imagine I am still ONLY 2 to 4 tenths faster than a stock SS. They are pretty quick production trucks. For that kind of $$ I would get a lightning.
I think with a mild intake and exhaust, the SS would whoop on almost any Titan unless NOS or forced induction is involved.
I just traded in an 04/Chev SS on my 04 Titan. I had a Corsa exhaust and a volant intake with ram air scoop on the SS. IMO the SS was a bit faster, but not by much. Car and Driver says 0-60 in 6.3 for the SS. I have Banks on order and still haven't decided about what intake I will get for the Titan though.

I'm sure that's true, but your comparing a standard model Titan to a Top model Chevy. Let's wait and see if Nissan come's out with an SE-R or GT-R Titan! Let's just say if that happens I will be trading in!

i just started working for a gmc dealer and they had one of these trucks and i must say after driving it i do think it is just as fast or faster than the titan. i agree it does not have a standard engine like the titan but i belive it is comparable in the horsepower department, but i still love my titan

Ive heard nissan is planning on putting a V6 in Titans in the future though. That would be a mistake no doubt. THey should put $$$ into developing VVTi for the V8.

Yeah, I did hear that too. Not a bad thing though. With those base model trucks they will target the fleet buyers and build there sales volume.
If nissan does decide to use a v6 in base models it would probably be the VQ v6 used in the upcoming xterra, frontier, and pathfinder so it woulnt really be a mistake as those engines are quite beastly!! Rated at 255hp for the xterra, 265 for the frontier, and 270 for the pathfinder, im sure it will still keep the titan ahead of the competions v6 trucks.
