I had Line-X put in my Titan today. Overall I'm happy with how it looks. There's enough threads out there that already talk about the different spray-ins, so I won't go into that.
One problem I had with the dealer is when I went in last week to make an appointment I asked them about taking out the tie-downs before spraying and then re-installing. They said, "Oh sure, we do that on all the trucks." When I go back today to pick up the truck they hadn't taken them out and just sprayed on top of everything. When I asked about it they said the tie-downs on Titans and Frontiers don't have long enough bolts to go back in after spraying on the bedliner. I've taken the tie-downs off before and don't remember them being short, we're only talking about an extra 1/8" of coating on the bed. I can't prove the bolts are long enough now, they're pretty much stuck where they are. I don't think I'll ever need to take the tie-downs out, but I'd like to have the option. At the very least, tell me about the bolts when I asked about it and I probably would have brought in longer bolts for them to use after spraying.
So what do you think? Are they just B.S.'ing me? Am I making too big of a deal about it? Has anyone else been told the bolts are too short? Titangasm, if you're listening, what are my options? I don't trust the installer to give me straight answers about it. What it boils down to is that I'm not happy paying for something that is not what was promised and being stuck with the results. Thanks for listening.

Sounds like BS to me. I'd talk to the manger then get his/her boss' number and raise cane if they don't satisfy you.

When people say "clean as a whistle", they forget that a whistle is full of spit.
I have Line-X and they removed the tie downs, sprayed the bed and reinstalled them. I also had them remove the rubber plugs for the utility bed option. It was a non-event so it would seem they are BS'ing you.
Yep, the more I think about it the more I think it is BS. I removed the tie-downs before and remember thinking that I had to ratchet for a long time to get the bolts out. I thought they would remove the rubber plugs to have a consistent bonding base too, but they didn't do that either. Maybe that's my fault for not specifying that one directly, but I did ask about the tie-downs. I assume I'm stuck with it now. I'll complain to the owner and hope to get money back or maybe some other accessory at cost. It's more on principle than anything because they were just being lazy IMO. Any other ideas?

Its BS I have a spray in bed liner and none of my tie downs are sprayed and work just fine. The bolts that hold them in are pretty long you probably could have up to and inch of Liner and they would still bolt in. I call BS big time.
I went back to the in Line-X shop today to discuss it with them. He stuck by his story that they've had problems with the bolts on the Titans on previous jobs, but admitted that they didn't actually remove my bolts to see if they were long enough. They are willing to cut out the liner around the tie-downs, remove the tie-downs and scrape the liner off of them, put a liner patch on those areas of the bed and reinstall the tie-downs. I'm not sure if I want to do all that since it might be creating more problems than it fixes. I can't image the finished product being without some affects to the liner in those areas or the tie-downs themselves. But I also hate for them to get away with doing a lazy job.
For what it's worth, I like the Line-X liner itself. It looks good and stuff doesn't slide around as much as I thought it would with it being a harder surface than Rhino. My only problem has been with the installation. But next time I might use Herculiner (do it yourself brand) so I know I get the finished product that I expect. Thanks for reading through my rant.

I hope you are kidding about the Herculiner. The product is not even in the same league as LINE-X.
Well, we'll just have to agree to disagree about the quality of the different bedliners available. For my light hauling needs, I don't really think it will make a difference which product I chose from a durability standpoint. Like I said in the beginning, there are plenty of threads already discussing the various products, so I didn't want to rehash that argument. I'm just saying in this era of "customer no-service" it is sometimes simplest to just do things yourself if you want it done right. If Line-X put out a product that I could install myself then maybe I would go that route. Again, no problem with the product, just the installation.
But now that I have your attention, Titangasm, any suggestion on what I should do at this point? Am I correct in the assumption that cutting out the tie-downs and putting a patch in those areas like the dealer is offering could create additional problems? Thanks for your time.

That's bizarre. I had a SuperLiner sprayed in my bed, and they removed the tiedowns, the plugs, bed caps, everthing that could be removed they took off. Everything went back on no problem.
Nothing in the world pisses me off more than someone giving excuses to get them out of trouble. He messed up make him pay or redo the whole thing. They have a life time deal make them do it over. Its your 400-450 for a job that you are obviously not happy with. To help your fight out, here are some pictures of a lined bed and no sprayed tie downs or drain plugs.
Thanks for the pictures Russell. I hadn't seen it in gray before. Looks sweet.

Titangasm, I know you're a dealer for Line-X, but I have a Q? for you... I am not too familiar with the Line-x prep work-- does the prep work for a "proper installation" basically include a stripping of the paint to the metal for the installation? Generally, what is the prep work for installation?
