Check and see if there has been a TSB issued concerning the problem.

If I understand correctly it is not leaking. It is a preemptive pressure relief mechanism designed into the mug to prevent overfilling of the operator and also has a secondary function of keeping the devices surrounding it moist and properly lubricated.
You, my friend, have a unique and properly functioning liquid containment device.

Hope that helps

I called Nissan Customer Service on your behalf, and they said there was nothing wrong with your mug. This is obviously further proof that Nissan does not understand the importance of proper liquid volumes (e.g., front & rear gear lube, owners manual says 6.5 quarts engine oil when it takes 7, etc.) and thus Nissan ensured they remained consistent with their practices by having your cup leak down to an appropriate level!

Coffee mug was clearly not operated properly during break-in period.

I also received the liquid containment device after waiting
since March. Likewise, after properly breaking it in, and after
approximately 100 ozs of liquid, the top seals failed. The
device, when it was tilted at an angle of slightly more than
90 degrees, the top separated itself from the main body. The
resultant decompression allowed leftover fluid to flow unimpeded
to where it appeared I've pi..ed my pants. So there! It is now
laying alongside a major Interstate waiting to be found by a
fellow in an orange jumpsuit carrying a plastic bag!

Oh come on, it is "operating as designed" and besides, a tech "verified against other vehicles on lot and it is normal operation"
