obsessed with fluid changing

ok i am getting lost with all the fluid changing going on. some where on here some guy is changing AT fluid every 10,000 miles and people are using synthetic motor oil and still changing every 3,000 miles. Most everybody on here has changed rear Dif. to synthetic. and plans to change it every 10,000 miles. come on At fluid last a hell of a long time, and Diff fluid also.

so whats going on here that i dont know about. Do all the factory and non synthetic oils just suck or what. i have got over 100,000 miles out of every vehicle ive owned with a oil change every 5,000. i should also say i have never changed AT fluid or Diff fluid.

i think i also seen a guy on here changing air in his tires every 500 miles and his washer fluid to synthetic that he changes every 3 days.

just curious no harm ment.

It is a type of neurosis. Another symptom is posting to a Truck forum more than 20 times in two or three months.

maybe I am a little over concerned about trans fluid. but, if you've ever spend $2500 on a new or rebuilt trans(like me), a little fluid seems like good insurance. My last car got 160k on the trans and it ran and shifted like new. I changed the fluid often. the trans on the titan will probably cost you more than $4000.

most trannys do not go bad due to lack of fluid change. some are weak and things wear out or break. no fluid change will help things like that.

You know it depends what you are doing with your truck. No I tow a small fold up
Chalet trailer and carry quite a bit of stuff in the bed. My truck is right at the GVWR
and I go up and down alot of mountain passes. It is a hard load on the rear axle so
I changed the fluid at 5K miles. On a lot of trips I start out at 40F go to 10F and than
hit Death Valley and it is 100F so I use a 10W50 synthetic to cover the range of temperatures that I run into. I also live in a small town and only drive a couple of miles
to work so I am pretty aggressive on oil changes. I actually change all my fluids including brake fluid every three years. It all depends on how you use your truck and
in what conditions. Towing, around town puttering without any highway miles are tough on a rig and so I compensate with clean fluids. Use common sense and read the
manual. Many people don't understand around town puttering is as bad for your truck
as towing.

P.S. For those people looking on changing the blinker fluid the drain is right next to
the muffler bearing.

wow, I didn't know that. perhaps you could tell a source for this fact. I'd just like to know how this was determined...or, did you determine it based on a study of your own?

I just put winter air in my tires because it does better in the snow.

xW-50 is not recommended by Nissan. I doubt it will hurt it, but it will probably reduce mileage 1-2 mpg. Something with that big of number spread in the weights will also shear down faster, according to a lot of the oil analysis I have seen.

Many people have gotten excellent analysis results running oils such as 0w-20 and 5w-20 on some later model Hondas and Fords. I don't recommend it in the Nissan since they don't recommend it, but heavy oils are a thing of the past.

Some people are just paranoid about putting the best in their vehicles, which I can't blame them. However changing the oil(synthetic every 3000 miles is just a waste of money if you ask me. This is my third nissan and I don't even do what the dealer says (3,000 miles). I do what the book says at every 3750 miles. Guess it couldn't hurt to change oil earler.

It all depends.
My 02 Nissan frontier had 104,000 trouble free miles on it when I traded it in on the Titan(Still had the original General tires on it.)
Changed the oil(Dino) and filter(Fram Tough Guard) every 7000 miles.
Running mobil 1 now but I still plan on running 7000 miles between changes.
