When I test drove a Titan last week, I checked out the RF audio system that was in the truck. It sounded pretty good but for a 10 speaker system and two subwoofers......it didn't blow me away. The salesman was in the truck with me, so I couldn't turn it all the way up. For you guys that actually have this system, does this thing rock or is it just a mediocre system? Maybe I didn't have it set right or something.
Regardless of the badging it is a stock system. That being said, it is a good stock system, but not a great sounding system by any means. A lot of the people on here are upset with the sound quality thinking that it's an RF system so it should be fantastic, and for the money, it could definitely stand to be better. However, I am willing to bet that the people unhappy with the RF would be unhappy with any stock system regardless of who it is made by.

Top 10 Ways You Know You're a Hopeless Procrastinator:
If you are looking to pop the windows out with bass forget it. It is fine by me and plays
loud enough without distortion to drive down the road at 70 with the windows open and hear the music. My 2004 has one subwoofer under the drivers seat. It can be boomy with certain kinds of music. The Aux in on the front of the unit is perfect for
my sat radio module. Overall I give it 8 out of 10 for a factory system. I would suggest
you go listen to it again and see if it will work for you. Go find a young salesman and
he will probably understand where you are coming from. I like it except for the boomy
bass but I am over 50 and music stopped for me around 1990 :-)

I tore mine out and it was only 1 sub under the driver's seat. Did they change something for '05 ?
If I had to do things over, I would have bought a more basic truck and added aftermarket stereo, DVD, NAV.
I thought there was a subwoofer under each seat. If there aren't two subs, where are the ten speakers? What I actually noticed was two speakers in the rear doors, two speakers in the front doors, two on the dash and one in the center.and if there is only one sub....where are the other two speakers?
one in each front door (2)
one tweet at each side of dash (2)
one center of dash (1)
one tweet in each rear door (2)
one speaker in each rear door (2)
one sub under driver's seat (1)
dude if you are not into tthe aftermarket thing, then get rf as it is good for stock system. the only better stock systems out there come in the acura tl's, 350z and maybe the bmw
but if you have few hours and can turn a ratchet, screwdriver and a soldering iron, Id say spend that 1300 on a double din nav/video HU from kenwoodd or pioneer and build around that, and think you will save money in the long run on the interest saved off your car note
wish Iw oudl have done that
but I do undestanding not wanting to deal with all that and wanting a nice stock stereo

I agree with what you said but don't forget insurance. A stock system is
covered by your insurance. If you put in an aftermarket system it is generally
not covered unless you buy a insurance rider which is generally so much per
$100 of stereo. It can get expensive on a good system and you pay year
after year.
I stuck with the OEM system, as it sounds pretty decent with the OEM XM reciever, plus I prefer the factory look and integration with the steering wheel controls.
If I were you, I would ask to sit ALONE in a truck with RF, and listen to some familiar CD's to see if you like it before deciding. DO NOT use FM as the source unless you really listen to a lot of FM, as this will not properly demonstrate the capabilities of the system.

Yes, the RF system isn't the greatest in the world. You can by far do better with an aftermarket system. HOWEVER, if you want an integrated system (steering wheel controls, dash, etc.) and don't want to be screwing around with a new truck, I feel that it's better than most factory systems. What it really lacks is high frequencies which could be easily fixed with replacement tweeters. The bass isn't bad for a factory install. It's not the same as my dual 12" in my Maxima but it's good enough for the truck, at least for now.

When I bought the 2000Xterra, it was billed as having kick arse 100 watt multi speaker rig that would compliment my modern lifestyle. It was a loud but very flat sounding system that drove me to replace the speakers for some relief. Now having the Titan, the best way to describe the difference between the two is like comparing AM to FM stereo. Bass is now a component of the music. All my home studio tapes that I thought were mixed with too little bass, really kick now.
I know its not the boom car sound, however you define that, but it puts a smile on my face.
Besides aftermarket stereo installs are for the kids. Its fun for them to talk about and gives them a creative outlet. We all did it.
I agree that the RF isn't the greatest, but I am not inclined to change to an aftermarket right now. The Sub was the worst sounding part of the stock setup, but I did the $1.57 fix to it, and it sounds much better now.
I personally think the RF system is better than average for a factory system. I am not sure that I would say it was worth the money on just its sound quality. There is no doubt that an aftermarket would sound better but IMHO they look like crap. I feel the same way about aftermarket nav. I like things to be plain and simple, very functional but hidden. I like my factory nav because it is built into the truck and has a great place to hide. I like the factory system because it requires no "kit" or enormous plastic square and blends in smoothly with the rest of the controls. I am the same way with most thing on a car or truck. I like to buy the most loaded vehicle on the lot but will not add anything to it. I peel 4X4 stickers off, would never get a factory exhaust, think that 99% of after market rims look like crap and cant stand neither lift nor lowering kits of any kind.
With all that being said I feel that people should do whatever they want and makes them happy.
