How do you guys go at it when you decide to paint a surface?

I'm thinking of painting my toolboxes and other machines in my garage to different colors and I was wondering what type of paint you guys use for that nice smooth factory like finish. I don't find using a spraycan would do the trick and do you need to buy any special hardware?

Do you guys need to apply primer and have other additives to have the paint stick on to metal?

spray cans are too messy to deal with.

for a nice factory like finish youll need factory like products, if you are good friends with anybody in the body shop business he may lend you his spray gun which is can range from $100 to $400 and maybe some primer, thinner, paint. for what you are doing i would see no need to clear coat unless you really want to.

a really good smooth surface, and a few coats of paintwith a good spray gun, then a good polish will do the trick.

a primer is a must for a good paint job. dont forget to wet sand the primer
