Stock Tires = No Over 85 mph????

i don't know if i read it wrong, but the manual says that it's not recommended that we should not drive a speed over 85mph on the stock tires:

True or False?

Can someone enlighten me on this please. I mean with the amount of power that this truck have, it's too easy to go over 85+...........

That is usually true with off-road tires.....unless you have some street tires the stock tires on the off-road Titans are gonna be big and wide with traction cleats.not smooth street tires for high speeds.

I would think that is false. The stock tires should be able to handle the truck's max speed. (don't really know, just makes sense)

like the typical folks, mine is the regular KC-SE 4x2.

i understand that with performance tires, you can go high rate of speed, but Nissan can't expect to give us a stock tires just for normal city use....i'm hearing folks taking their Titan on road trips and i'm sure there are some that goes 85+

The tires may not be rated to go any faster than 85 mph But i'm quite sure that they are UNDER-RATED. Does anyone know how these things will go FLAT OUT????? I dont remember seeing that posted anywhere on this forum.I know my buddys 00Chevy is LIMITED to about 105 mph by the E.C.M. ,

The following are federally accepted tire speed ratings for tires. As an example; police vehicles use 'H' rated tires. This means that they will withstand 130 MPH for at least 1 hour continuous. Look at your tire and find the rating letter and then check the chart below. 85MPH may be the safe factor for a pickup truck. Not the tire.

Rating Maximum Speed
Q 99 mph 160 kph
R 106 mph 170 kph
S 112 mph 180 kph
T 118 mph 190 kph
U 124 mph 200 kph
H 130 mph 210 kph
V 149 mph 240 kph
W 168 mph 270 kph
Y 186 mph 300 kph
Z Above 149 mph Above 240 kph

Nissan should never have put on "P" tires on a truck! "LT" tires are what belong on any full size 1/2 ton truck-period

I've had my truck over 95 mph...now you tell me.

Well, generally speaking, car manufacturers govern the top speed of their cars to match the top speed the tires can handle. I don't know if this applies to trucks with truck tires, but it DEFINITELY applies to passenger cars - You'll notice that many Mercedes, BMWs, etc. are governed at around 150mph - the speed rating for V rated tires.

I can tell you all that I have had my 04 SE CC up to 120 on the highway, and held a steady 100 on the highway for over 20 minutes and the truck handled fine, actually better than fine, as good as any car that I have ever gone that quick in (with the exception of my x g/f 's Ferr. Testerosia) And I have what ever tires come stock on the, Wrangler somethings.

Really? That's funny... your truck is governed at 114 mph.

It looks like the tires you have, Goodyear Wrangler SR-A (265-70-18), are "S-Rated" which means the tires should be able to sustain 112 mph.

Speedo error at that point I bet.

Ahhhhh... if you want speed and ya like Nissan, get the Sentra Spec-V. I had an 02 that I traded in for my Titan. The car ran well and was very smooth at 80 MPH cruising. It cornered very well! I miss that part.... I've had it up to 125 MPH about twice on a private road that connected two huge farm fields out in the boonies where I live. I loved that car 9 months out of the year, but cursed it 3 months out of the year. TERRIBLE in the snow with stock Connie sport Z rated tires. It ran really good and performed really well for a $20K car.

Titan tires are rated 'S'. This is 112 mph rated tire. That does not mean it will fall apart at 113. It's the way the feds and tire manufacturers rate speed. All ratings mean the tire will withstand the rated speed for at least 1 continuous hour at a time.

Aslo Note:

All ratings are done by engineers who way over estimate to be safe. The 85 statement is for safty with 99.9999% success rate. IE: no fail ratio
