Galaxy Black owners (and others) - Paint Fading?

I did my winter wax job a few days ago and noticed, on the hood especially, that the paint appears to be fading. It almost looks like if you left soap on the vehicle and let it dry (which I never do)

I took of my bug deflector to wax behind it and noticed it was even worse there... I've never had this problem and owned quite a few black vehicles.

The only reason I could see it's worse behind the bug deflector is because I can't reach behind it to dry it. (well water)

Just wondering if others are noticing the same thing. Thanks!

I don't have black but, I'd bet it's just water stains (hard water) and will come off with waxing. Remember too that Titans in black or the white are not clearcoated either.

I thought only the white was not clear coated.

Maybe I'm wrong then Slurp. I can surely find out tomorrow though. I'll be at the dealer so I'll do some research. I know for sure the white isn't (I have the white) but I thought the black wasn't either. In recent years, Nissan has started clearcoating all colors, even their blacks and whites. Not on mine! I let ya know what I find out.

You sure about that? Black "metallic" paint and its not two stage? Too much orange peel of clear under my hood to think not.

I've got galaxy and when I first got the truck it had marks as your talking about on the roof in front of the sunroof. I took it back and the removed it and rewaxed it, they told me it was from the plastic they use for shipping.

I've waxed my truck about 5 times this summer... ones with Mothers paste to see if it would help. Seemed to get worse.

I've applied NuFinish twice within a month after about 1000miles. I still look good from the reflection.

My truck is black and have had no problems. I use Meguiars Show Car Glaze and Zymol Titanium.

I would recommend getting some Mequires Body Scrub and Compound. And do your hood with both. Sounds to me you have something in the paint that needs to be removed.

Per this site http://www.paintscratch.com the Smoke Metallic and the Pearl White are the non-clearcoat versions. Although I can't see the Smoke not having a clear coat.

Well, it's not even fading.. looks almost like a rainbow effect.. mainly on the swoops on the hood (where it contours down) and a couple spots in the middle of the hood.. And of course behind the bug deflector...

I tried mothers paste cleaner/wax with a buffer and it didn't seem to make any difference.

I have black and I'll tell you what, you have to be very careful on this paintjob. On mine, even the slightest fingernail rub will render a noticable scuff in the paint...that is all it takes. This is one of the few things I dont like about this truck.
