Consumer Reports recommends Titan - that can't be right.

http://www.detnews.com/2004/autosins...b01-328882.htm
(See chart)

FYI: My parents became new 04 Armada SE 4x4 owners last week. I'll have photos soon. We all know about the first-year bugs, but we needed a new truck and we looked at the Sequoia, it was not as big and even with the valve-timed V-8 giving it 285 HP, it doesn't compare to the 305 HP 5.6L in the Armada.

We are very confident that the Canton plant has gotten its first-year issues out of the way. I know, we all know, and everyone at Nissan knows that they won't take the quality issues lightly.

Nissan should be very proud that the Titan is now marked as a recommended vehicle in CR's 2005 new car previews issue. Time will tell if the Titan and Armada will have the quality at close match to that the Tundra and Sequoia.

Titan makes the "recommended" list, Armada and F150 make the "least reliable" list.
Go figure.

Consumer reports knows nothing about testing vehicles. The armada has had issues but mostly squeaks and rattles and the known brake problems. When they survey people and ask about there ownership, complaints about the squeaks and rattles go against the reliability rating. Yes the squeaks can be anoying but when i look at reliability i look at the engine and tranny and things that keep the truck moving so it dosent leave you stranded. I havent heard of any major mecahnical flaws with thetitan or armada except tyhe early dif issues but i think most of that has been resolved.

CR seems to go by problems per 100 vehicles, not by actual problem catagories. But what I find strange is that the Armada made the lkeast reliable list and the Titan the recommended list. With the Titan and Armada having the same problems and the Titan outselling the Armada, what math are they doing?

I'm sure we'll be hearing from him on this. Someone might have to inform him that he shouldn't be comparing a minivan with a truck.

Of course, if you read carefully, it says CR uses past 3 years performance as a predictor of future reliability, which is exactly why their ratings are flawed, since a new model with 100% reliability scores no better than its unreliable ancestors.

By their own standard, what could CR be using to base its judgment upon the Titan? The Frontier? The Altima? Maxima? 350Z?

It's why I basically put no faith in what CR says. What you can count on in general, is that if it's from a Japanese company, they like it. And if it's from Europe or U.S., they say to avoid it.

i've always read consumer reports with a grain of salt. they seem very liberal to me, at least when it comes to autos. i think they take the one that gets the best gas mileage and make the other models in that class out to be problematic. my 2 cents
